Ok so i'm not entirely sure if i should put this in here but it's worth a try.

Looking at buying a new monitor for my pc. But I'm looking to use a 40-46" Full HD LCD Tv as the monitor :D

These things are UNHOLY expensive in SA so i would like to know if any1 can tell me what it would cost to ship(from the US) and the import tax on a $1200 TV..

I am going to the states in December so i can buy it then, but how do i get it here?! Ship it with fed-ex?

Any help would be appreciated.

No idea about the cost, but I hope you have a monster of a graphics card to run that thing...cause 480x640 on 46" blows.

And those things are not designed for being viewed from close up.

8800gt. I know it's not an ultra or a 9800GTX but it can handle the resolution and I would get decent fps in some games :D

Graphics card should be able to handle it....but I'm still not convinced that sitting 40cm from a screen designed to be viewed from 3m+ is going to look too good.

If you crunch the numbers, you'll find that you have less than half the pixels per square inch compared to a 17" running @ 1024x768.;)

Yeah, I was thinking of doing the same a while back but those tv's are really not good close up...It's a bit of a risk if you ask me.

I've tried running 1920x1020 on my 40" full HD with 8600gt 512mb version. Can only get 1024x768 max. The 8800GT is a much better card so I would assume it might manage, would suggest you get a more powerful card though.

I guess even that is not too bad a resolution but on a screen of that size and if it is going to be the primary monitor, then I don't think it's going to be a good idea.

Well one of my mates is running a setup like this and it looks awesome! It's primarily going to be for gaming so yeah... but unfortunatly i have to go for a 32" since the 40" can't fit into my space :p

But i still don't know what the import tax is on a tv :-/

480x640? Will he be mounting it vertically? :p

I think that as long as the card can handle the monitor's native resolution, it should be fine.

I read a review somewhere were they tested a 40", and the guy complained about getting nauseas, almost like motion sickness. He was testing it on games though.
