42" and HD Ready should never be in the same sentence. Luckily it's a plasma, so the low resolution will be less noticeable. But still: for a Series 4... :(

HD Ready is all fine and good if you never plan on getting Blu-Ray or display Full-HD content... even on a 42" display.

THAT screen from Nashua is not HD Ready in my opinion. Its native resolution is 4:3 not 16:9... HD Ready is 1280x720... that screen is 1024x768.

I'd rather get the Samsung 32" for R5299. That's proper 720p.

If you're going to buy a screen bigger than 40" then it has to be 1080p. If it isn't then it's like buying an amplifier without having any speakers to connect it to.

1024 x 768 is 16:9 and an accepted HD resolution, the pixels themselves are not square

If you sit a metre from the screen then yes

Smurfatefrog : I know we've had this argument before.... and we're entitled to each others opinions but 1024x768 is a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution, that is an undeniable fact.

1024 / 768 = 1.333333333333 ---- 4 / 3 = 1.333333333333

1280 / 720 = 1.777777777778 ---- 16 / 9 = 1.777777777778

If the pixels aren't "square" then its doing massive image manipulation to get a 16:9 image displayed even vaguely correctly.

Ah ok, I vaguely remember discussing this before. I could agree with your bottom statement but you cant deny that it is still a 16:9 display, ie it displays content like any other 16:9 display, it might process it differently but at the end of the day it is still 16:9

Personally i disagree because the native resolution on the display is 4:3... but yes, the physical display is in the 16:9 format.

All this really changes tho is that I would never buy a display whose native resolution is not 16:9...

The "specification" (if you can even call it that) calls for 16:9 resolution, not size.

So 1024 x 768, no matter what the shape of the pixels, is NOT HDTV

All the misinformation on this forum...hope nobody makes final decision on what tv to buy based on this. If you want to waste money buy full hd. If you want to waste even more, buy full hd lcd.

Or if you want an awesome Bluray experience, buy "Full HD".

So your opinion is that HD and LCDs are not that good? Or not worth it?

Bought the screen from Game earlier.damn it looks good and even better since i got it for R6900.For under 7K i think its a steal for a 42''.I don't see the point in buying a screen that's Full HD with little difference and spending between 2-5K extra for "so called" better picture.SA will not have a Full HD signal for about 5 years from now.By that time i have a LED screen already.

For the average Joe, this screen is adequate w.r.t. specs, picture quality, inputs, etc. I don't know why people hype over the pathetic picture quality of LCD, although the Full HD ones looks decent.I would say on par with the HD Ready Plasma's.

If you have the $$$ then go for the Full HD, but if you on a budget go for a HD Ready Plasma. You won't be dissappointed

For R2k extra you get a FULL-HD LCD with a 5 year warranty... that is NATIVELY 16:9....

I think its worth the extra R2k.
