4mb Line Sync Speeds

Hi there

Can any1 tell me what might be wrong with my ADSL Line

My line was upgraded from a 512k to a 1mb to 4mb on friday last week. Since then my line has been sync'ing at different speeds all day. currently it is at

DownStream Connection Speed 3520 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 384 kbps

My download speeds are close to useless. 30-50max. Besides the speed, my line constantly drops and reconnects. This happens every 30 mins or so. sometimes more sometimes less.

I have called telkom so many times I dont know what else to do. Im using a Netgear DG834 Router.

Any help would be appreciated

Correct me if I am wrong:

It would seem to me that you are quite far from the exchange. This would mean that your router will keep trying to sync, and when it can't it will try sync at a lower amount (usually 32k or 64k less) and it will keep going down in said increments until in syncs properly.

Basically your router is poking your line with different sync speeds to see which works best.

That may be the problem

but is there any way to fix it without telkoms help ?

Its driving me crazy. On monday my modem sync'd at 2048 down and 512k up and it was working great. but now it keeps trying to sync.

atm its at

DownStream Connection Speed 3520 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 384 kbps

Can i limit it? or do nething...

pretty much nothing you can do there. In theory your router will find a decent sync rate, but until then you're in for a bumpy ride I'm sad to say :(

this sucks . DSL works 100% , then suddenly reconnects intself. basically drops for a few seconds. Then sync's at a different speed.

If I could just limit the sync speed or force it that would probably fix it.

:(

Get to telkom to log a fault for you, if you havent already. You line obviously cant hold synching at 3520, cause that is wat telkom has set your maximum synch value to because u obviously cldnt go higher.. They need to bring u down some more... What is your SNR and attunuation sitting at?

What are your snr and attenuation margins from the router? If they are too low in the case of snr and too high in the case of attenuation your router will simply not be able to synch the line. The higher the bandwidth of the connection the lower/higher the snr/attenuation.

*SNR = Signal to noise ratio
