Hi

Since this is a trial period it leaves the 4mbit people thinking if its going to be a success or not, so why not give your 1'st hand pro's and cons, mainly have you lost any latency in games you play, has your internet gone down the drain or has it been a success, add area too.

Pro's
Faster

Con's
None

Line Stability?: 100% on a 7SNR and 54 Attenuation (in otherwords JUST making 4mbit)

Games: No change.

From what I seen so far, this has been nothing but good.

I am on 384kbps moving to 512kbps next week so I cant comment on the 4Mbit, but what I have heard on the forum it seems there are minor issues. However none that they cannot overcome while in the trial period.

It's day 2. I'll reserve my judgement for now :D

EDIT - I'm sure I read it was a 6 month trial now I'm not sure

I am not sure how relevant this is to the introduction of 4mb adsl, but International web sites are up the creek, with high latency, and some (yahoo) just plain stalling. Initially I thought it may just be the particular sites but after some tests seems to be across board.

4mb is much better than 1mb, and there is no way they will be able to turn us back to 1mb.This is same tactic ISP's around the world have tried to keep customers.
Just a way for Telkom to cover their ass. The introduction of this service on the same day SNO launches is not coincidence either. Now if only we can get the prices down, and abolish Line rental then we can get back to business.

Telkom did not mention howlong the trial is gonna last??

Any idea, howlong this trail will be on??

When will they announce if it was a failure/success

Or when they will make it official that 4mbit has indeed replaced 1mbit line price wise ??

My question is, if im synching at 4096, with a SNR of 6 and 32 Attenuation, should I expect 400 odd k/s download speeds?

Currently im getting 1meg speeds, if I'm lucky, which is still quite cool comming from 512!

I almost always get 400k/sec when downloading but for a lot of overseas sites i have to set my download manager to use at least 10 connections to achieve the speed. I'm smiling all the way and cannot go back to 1meg.

I've been searching but cant find anything on telkom's site - or anywhere else - about how long the trial will last so if someone has a concrete link that would be great. Lulu definitely didnt mention it in her press release.
ugghhh...not another 4mb thread...this is really getting boring.
Nothing better to talk about ATM. :)

Rasputyn you should be able to get round bout 440KB/s max.

and BTech, if you dont like 4mb threads dont read em :)

If 4mb goes away I think I'll go into a coma :/
