Long story short, I’m on telkom’s smartbroadband (30Gb + 30Gb) contract, last month I bought the 500Gb for R50. Today when I checked how much data I still have I noticed that my monthly 30Gb night surfer was being used up instead of the 500Gb I bought last month. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this

Have you reset your session? If you haven't disconnected then it may do that.

Rule of thumb:
00:05 - 07:00 reconnect your router/modem so it starts a new session.

Let us know on here if that works :)

Edit: if that fails to work, get another RICA'd sim, topup R50, switch tariff to Smartbroadband Wireless and load up the R50 for 500GB. It is abit more hassle but less headache on the data monitoring ;).

I might be mistaken but the 30GB nightsurfer is seen as promotional data so will be used first before the 500GB that was bought separately, either way the 30GB will expire anyway if not used up so burn through all of it if you able to.

Same here

100+100 here.

My std 100gb night data is being used first.
The conundrum is that the 500gb is going to expires on the 28th of Aug.
So, need to chew through the 100gb first then use the 500gb, even if I dont use half of it the 28-31 no night time data.

No biggy, still a sweet deal and its allowed me to catch up on a lot of stuff.

I'm on contract but I think it's wise if you are on contract if you want to use the 500GB, to get a prepaid sim card so you can use that 500GB without worry about your contract data.

It's like free me boost if you have data when you use whatsapp it use your normal data. When the finished that is when whatsapp start to use free me boost data.

^^ seems like a plan.

tbh I dont have a current need for that much data, but at R50 I was not going to pass it up :D

Anyway, with all downloading needs scheduled for after hours, even when it does expire I will have day data still left this month to see me through.

I’m left with 13gig averaging +-50Gig per night , so their little trick of ensuring I don’t use up the 500gig is failing

First time poster here, curious to find out if anyone is getting slow speeds after using up 250gb of the 500gb? The ceiling is 30mbps max after averaging 40-45mbps earlier in the month.

P2P is what is mostly affected It doesn't seem to go higher than 2.0MB/s which is not bad but slow compared to the speeds I got earlier in the month.

Might be a silly question, is the 500GB Night surfer bundle available to prepaid customers?

If you convert the prepaid sim to SmartBroadband Wireless Prepaid. The catch with this is you cant roam on the MTN network.

2 MBps is 20mbps. That isn't slow.

I am fairly sure that I have coverage here (Alberton)

The reason I am asking is the best night time bundle I currently am aware of is MTN 1gb for R10, if I can find a beter option I'd be very glad

Yes it's available on prepaid.

MTN got nothing on Telkom mobile 500GB for R50 and you have 30 days to use it. Does anyone know when will this special offer will end.

Tomorrow night must do some more downloads.

Not really slow..just that at the beginning of the month I was averaging 40mbps speedtests while streaming and downloading in the background And now i average 20mbps without any DL or streaming in the background. This started after I had used up +-250gb, just wanted to know if anyone was experiencing this kind of throttling in bandwidth (if it is throttling).

40- 20 is a big cut imho.

I think that a lot of people have joined this party, resulting in a bit of network congestion

Bought this the other day and used it first time last night. It does chew through your monthly night surfer allocation first. Had about 4GB of night data remaining on my 20GB+20GB contract which was used first. Still worth it though. Not sure I'll have enough things to download to make use of the full 500GB anyway. Need more hard drive space as well as time to watch things.

Time to get a prepaid Telkom SIM, methinks.

Stupid question; how does one RICA a Telkom SIM?
