Fibre shake-up in South Africa — Cheapest 500Mbps and 1Gbps connections

Numerous fibre network operators (FNOs) offer South Africans fast and affordable 500Mbps or 1Gbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections.

These top-end speeds let users download and upload large files in the shortest time possible on a relatively broadly-available Internet connection in South Africa.

Jan what about an article about the router you need to run these top speeds
I don't know of any ISPs who currently give out routers that can't support gigabit.

Or do you want an article to help with third-party purchases?

A few years ago some still ran 10/100 - but as you say, most have changed to Gbit Zyxel, MikroTik, Huawei, Calex etc.

My Calix is weird though - Gbit ports but only 2.4ghz wireless. Generally those two specs go together. So I can run my (soon to be) 500Mbps to the router - but I need a mesh to get that over WiFi

I would like to see an article investigating these networks and ISPs for the reasonableness of their prices. Our prices when compared to that in other countries (not on a dollar comparison because corporates use that to confound us) still appear very high.

Well done Metrofiber
