South African fibre price war — with 50Mbps from R499 per month

The entry-level fibre package speed for many South African fibre network operators (FNOs) has shifted from 10Mbps or 20Mbps to 50Mbps. A MyBroadband analysis has revealed that smaller Internet service providers (ISPs) offer the lowest prices on open-access networks.

To find the cheapest packages, we compared 50Mbps fibre packages on Vumatel, Openserve, Frogfoot, MetroFibre, Octotel, and Herotel's networks across seven ISPs.

Herotel operates their own network... so no wonder it's R499. Atm there is not really much of a war, the funny thing it's pretty reversed. ISP'S are offering 3 months free or at a lower price. Ultimately you'll still pay between 600-800 for a 50Mbps line.

Click bait article much?

Hassle free and happy on Herotel at R499 pm uncapped 50 Mbps for 13 months...

well I'm on 50/50 now due to the Octotel speed bumps for the festive season.
Thats going to drop back to 35/25 in the new year sometime (cannot remember the exact date, too lazy to check)
my 35/25 with MWEB is normally R639.
I dont feel like paying R749 longer term to keep 50/50.
While the speed bump is cool, I cannot say I notice the difference between 35/25 and 50/50 for regular browsing. Only big downloads are quicker.
Perhaps next year there'll be some more permanent speed/price adjustments.

Vinet Internet Solutions is R495 for 50/50 - I'm on a 500/500 Vinet package for just over 2 years now. Very happy
