Now that's I'm hapy to admit to...
I get that one. Spent all week shooting with the 16-35mm in order to try and learn to love it . . . but I don't - I just cant bring myself to get rid of it.

I'll swap you your unloved 16-35 for my unloved 50mm f/1.8.

After my 50mm f1.4 broke I tried to get a replacement from Amazon and they updated my order with a 3 week delay so I decided sod it and got a refund and just bought the 50mm f1.8 which they had in stock. It is like comparing a BMW to a Golf Chico... But still, at my current capabilities the f1.8 will suffice and the £220 I saved can go to the future spend bank.

I actually think that if I could have a complete muligan and was choosing a short prime I would go for a 35mm but the cost is just too much for me :(

The Canon 35mm f/2 is around £220 (Amazon is not the cheapest on ths one), and is a really nice lens. It's built much better than the 50mm f/1.8, and it's smaller. I had one and loved it.

When you say had, did you get rid of it and in that case why? Likewise if it broke, why didn't you replace it? Being a f2, did you get really good dof results? Sorry for the barrage of questions!

Someone walked off with my camera bag. :(

When it came time to buy a new one, I was in a bit of a hurry, and the shop didn't have stock of the 35mm f/2, but they did have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 in stock, so I ended up buy that. It's a better lens than the 35mm f/2 in every way, except maybe overall sharpness, but twice the price too.

I didn't have it for very long, and I mostly used it as a lightweight space saver rather than a low light/shallow DOF lens, since it's more or less the same field of view as 50mm on film. The only shot I could find that I can post (I never post pictures of friends/family) is this - it should give you an idea:

Suffice to say, the bokeh is pleasing when wide open. It gets a bit nervous when you stop it down. But it's a grea lens - sharp even on full frame, very compact, quick focus, decent build quality, and most of all, cheap!
