According to their advert screened during the Master's golf on DSTV last night, ADSL now runs at 512 Kilobytes per second! It obviously doesn't bother Telkom to deliberately provide incorrect and is-leading information to the public.

Yes I KNOW that the claim will be made that they REALLY meant KiloBITS and that their advertising house doesn't understand the difference, but this is a blatant lie. As a networking and telecommunications company Telkom is obviously aware of the difference between bits and bytes and equally obviously Telkom persons will have checked and vetted the advert before its flighting, so the mistake argument just doesn't wash. The claim is made both in writing and in the voice over, from which one can only conclude that it was based on the specification given to the studio by Telkom.

This one of the most disgusting bits of misinformation I have ever been witness to.

As a matter of curiosity how many people even achieve 512 Kilobits / sec?

well then, maybe we should demand our 512 Kilobytes? I've never come anywhere close to 512 Kbits / sec. I've only ever seen a max of 52 KB / sec, now I know there's protocol overhead, but 12 KB?

Maybe every1 should post the max that they have seen on their connections and then we ( RPM ) can calculate the average.

hmmm, here's a thought ( lawyer required ). If in a contract I state that I will endeavour to do my best, I am actually saying that it will be done / completed as stated in the contract.

Do my best?????????????

Telkom states that they don't even have to do their worst! They are careful to state that they are not responsible for providing anything. Of course we could all move to the alternative service. Oops I keep on forgetting ...

You / We should pass it on to the Advertising Complaints Commission.
(Sorry I don’t have there details to hand)

It won’t help us directly, but any bad press for Telkom is good for us in the long run.

Talking of long runs – good luck to all members running tomorrow, I will be watching you from the Chapmans Peek Hotel.

Cheers
