According to their advert screened during the Master's golf on DSTV last night, ADSL now runs at 512 Kilobytes per second! It obviously doesn't bother Telkom to deliberately provide incorrect and is-leading information to the public.
Yes I KNOW that the claim will be made that they REALLY meant KiloBITS and that their advertising house doesn't understand the difference, but this is a blatant lie. As a networking and telecommunications company Telkom is obviously aware of the difference between bits and bytes and equally obviously Telkom persons will have checked and vetted the advert before its flighting, so the mistake argument just doesn't wash. The claim is made both in writing and in the voice over, from which one can only conclude that it was based on the specification given to the studio by Telkom.
This one of the most disgusting bits of misinformation I have ever been witness to.
As a matter of curiosity how many people even achieve 512 Kilobits / sec?
