Extensinve updates commited to my site at
http://sawireless.tripod.com

Describes how to create a repeater node with back-to-back
Access Points and cross-over ethernet cable.

Street security:
Place two Firewire webcams back-to-back halfway up the street or use
B/W CCD camera's. Both camera's have view to the entrances to the street. A petsafe passive sensor is mounted at the entrances to the street. When the passive is triggered by a vehicle or human , it sends a signal on the license free 433mhz band to the PC's hosting the Firewire camera's.

The video signal is only routed after an intrusion at the perimeter of the road, over the Wi-Fi network to the security company that monitors the street. This saves bandwidth and reduces considerably the number of operators needed to monitor the streets. One operator could monitor many streets , providing a cost effective crime deterrent. The 433 MHz transmitter chip is obtainable from http://www.linxtechnologies.com

The host PC's of the Firewire camera's has an audio card to record sound and any gunshots being fired. With simple Digital Signal processing (DSP) a gunshot will trigger an alert at the security company with a video image for further action.

For night time surveillance two back-to-back infra-red spotlights are mounted besides the Firewire cameras. This provides the camera with 200 meters nightvision capability, better than Russian nightvision goggles. The Firewire camera's are CCD or Charge Coupled Devices and have nightvision capability in the presence of an infra-red lightsource. Infrared LED's are effective up to a few meters only. CMOS camera's will not work. The infra-red spotlight can be obtained from www.amazing1.com or http://maysurveillance.com/NetMedia_Security_Illuminators.16.12.0.0.htm

Telkom ADSL or Sentech could be used instead of community sponsored Wi-Fi equipment, just to get the street monitoring going. www.nocap.co.za might be able to help with the 3Gig cap issue.

One security company operator watches a set number of streets through the internet or if enough users would support a wireless WAN , through it then. Wireless video surveillance reduced crime tremendously in the JHB CBD. Residences streets are much less crowded and such video monitoring could reduce house break-ins by 90%. Once such deployment reaches critical mass in a neighborhood covering all escape routes, it would virtually eliminate crime.

The police would only be to willing to help catch such an escaping crook as he flees from video monitored street to street, because video evidence virtually secures a conviction. The burden of proof in criminal cases are extremely high and the exasperated police are demoralized with cases that are not even prosecuted.

www.amazon.com refuses to ship electronics gear to South Africa.
They only send books.

To get a cheap ($58) Linksys WAP11 to set up a video surveillance
link with a USB-ethernet converter as described at http://sawireless.tripod.com
SENAO brand's could just as well be used

Why not post details about your sca... er scheme here so everyone can see, it will make it to these forums anyway. I guess what I'm alluding to is how you do this LEGALLY. I'm sure I speak for most people here when I say I wouldn't invest in something knowing it could disappear in a few months (remember MegaWAN?).

All the WISP want's to force a 12 or 24 month contract on a
person. I would never agree to a 12 month contract with somebody
who can't even give me his home address. Just look at their sites,
no phone numbers or at best only Cell numbers.

Perdition...

Megawan lasted more than 3 years... not a few months as you state.

Their demise in the end was bad management/lack of investment.

Not only that, the web link specificed on the posters details doesn't work ....

As to being legal - It may be looking at the fact that no public roads are crossed.... too bad the poster doesn't know how bad a tase spamming all over the place leaves.

Is Perdition troling this forum?

My ADSL is the ideal place for commercial providers like
www.sawireless.co.za or sales@sawireless.co.za
and community installers to get together.

Everybody can benefit, community installers can make money by providing internet connectiviy to everybody in their street.
A commercial provider could then designate you as his mini ISP for
20 houses around you , with you installing the antenna's and
maintaning your own server.

This way a commercial provider could rapidly expand it's
business accross the whole JHB, and the mini street isp's also make a
profit.

I for example have no interest in making money out of wi-fi internet.
My goal is to get crime out of SA. But I realise that this will have
to be a secondary effect to a wi-fi boom in internet services.

So I will allow a commercial provider to
install a parabolic on my roof and I dont want any money or free
internet for it in return.

I would plead with everybody in South Africa to do the same - try
and see the big picture.

[:(!][:(] sawireless.co.za [:(!][:(]

SAD... Truly SAD.

I've just received a message from joe@sawireless.co.za complaining that MY site does not work...

This is in response to my previous forum post indicating that they spelt their address wrong in the forum information area

In reality the my site IS running... not that it makes a difference... I'm not trying to prove my competency OR sell ANYTHING. I consider it rather sad that a commercial company would choose to rather launch a personal attack against someone instead of fixing the problem and thanking me for brining it to their attention.

With such business ethics I wish them all the best, they will need it.

Trolling implies that I am not adding anything significant to this thread. I think questioning the legality of the service offered by Joe is very pertinent as there are many people who would buy in under false pretenses.

Joe, it is not a matter of me (or anyone) trying to do better but rather questioning a service that appears rather dubious. Instead of attacking people rather lay your cards on the table. To John's credit he never stated his system was 100% legal which I can accept, at least anyone wanting to get involved knows the potential hazards.

At the end of the day this is an OPEN forum and if you advertise a product expect it to be questioned.

btw why does Compulearn not have a valid website after almost 4 years of existence?

Yes Compulearn is down for now but will be back up as soon as we get our line. Compulearn and Sawireless is the same company. And yes, we have been in IT since before the start of BBS systems.

And we were already building servers and networks while you were still swimming around in your dad's nutsack.

SAWireless,

Do me a favour and go and review your profile information.

Instead of having
http://www.sawireless.co.za you have
http://sawirless.co.za

So stop being rude and thank me for pointing out the mistake.

Geez, obviously my dad's nutsack was able to supply me with manners and an ability to think.

SAWireless, to date you have advertised your company that nobody knows anything about, 3 times (twice in the same thread) and posted two insults towards Perdition. This is not a good way to make friends or build a potential customer base.

You're waiting for your line, fair enough however most businesses in this situation find alternative hosting in the interim. I find it interesting that rather than answer the question at hand you attack me again. This in itself indicates you are trying to avoid the issue and thus one could reasonably assume your service is not legal. Anyway I've wasted enough time on this... feel free to attack me some more, it doesn't phase me. People will draw their own conclusions from this "discussion" [;)]

Absolutely pathetic - if this is the kind of public face that sawireless has chosen to present, it does not hold out much promise for their future, let alone prospective shareholder dividends...
