Would I buy my internet access from somebody using this sort of grammer on their corporate web site and referring to something called high sites by some non-descript "they" entity?

No thanks.

www.busted.co.za has implemented my idea of monitoring streets.
I am pleased that this idea of mine is finally being commercially implemented.
I wish www.busted.co.za success with their venture !
AS soon as possible I will upload their site to mine at

I wouldn't get my hopes up too soon for WiMAX connections. While it is standardised as 802.16a/e, most members of the WiMAX forum seem not to want to allow the technology to go the same way as 802.11a/b/e/g has gone.

At this point, 802.11 has become cost effective and has fallen into the hands of the general public. A cheap, ubiquitous solution for wireless networking over short distances.

The WiMAX forum do not want 802.16 to go the same way. Instead, they prefer the technology to remain in the hands of large network operators. Individual users making use of the technology to set up connections would be bad for the business of the most lucrative market for this kind of equipment, large telecomms operators.

For this reason, the prices for WiMAX or generic 802.16 equipment will remain extremely high, well outside the reach of individuals or small businesses, only to be purchased and operated for large profits by telecomms operators.

Unless somebody comes up with several million rand to invest in infrastructure, don't expect to see WiMAX any time soon.

Why the ICASA comment and the link to the (old) Robert X. Cringeley article?

Would somebody please lock this thread, it is serving no perpose and its original topic has been superseeded by the "neighbourhood connection sharing" thread.

To be fair, I was only told that Sentech is using 2.5GHz long after my original post in this thread.

The only reason I was complaining about the thread is that it just seems to pop up and annoy me as soon as I have forgotten about it. I don't see the point of the thread, we've covered everything we need to share ADSL and other connections over wireless links in the "neighbourhood connection sharing" thread.

As for the Linksys AP, it might be helpful to everyone here if you could post the price of that box. [:D]

How is it people are always accusing me of working for Telkom... for heaven's sake. Read my posts on the "neighbourhood connection sharing" thread, if I were employed by Telkom, do you think I would encourage everyone there to buy APs and set up a wide area mesh. Furthermore, would I go so far as to tell them where they can get APs with the features they need at extremely low prices?

If not closed, this thread should at least move to off topic secion, or a new section should be created, something like "unwanted advertising with terrible spelling and grammar" comes to mind. [:)]

Oh for Pete's sake...

John, would you please post new replies instead of just editing and updating the same reply continuously so that replies to your posts appear out of synchronisation and out of context?

Wholly support PODO - lost the thread-sense of this topic entirely - sequential postings with proper message/response context would help understanding...
