could someone please let me know how i can get my adsl and land line installed some time before 2010 soccer world cup.
i have been phoning these idiots at telcom +- 3 times a week for as long as i can remember, they promise me they will get back to me in 48 hrs but i never hear from them again, now they tell me they do not have to take my 'frustration' over the phone.this is their toll free number that i have been phoning 0800 456786
they aslo gave me their "supervisor's" (a so called mr pieters which i suspect does not even exist) number which i have dialled over 30 times and only got
a disconected line signal, i dont know maybe he forgot to pay his account?
MR Pieters phone number 021 4144865

If anyone knows of a number or person that can help me with my line in pmb natal please let me know

sorry.. can't help with numbers.

But I remeber their "phone you back in 48hours" quote. Never got a phone call. If you want to define useless+pathetic ... just think Telkom

I suggest you visit a local Telkom shop. It might help you or it might not.

Nothing new. I've been waiting since the 6th of March now myself. Calling Telkom solves nothing. It really is simply a case of hurry up and wait. I've gone from confirmed installation dates (where I got Telkom to actually send me an e-mail confirming they will be at my house to install) to an expected date of installation sometime in november. I think the only option most of us have available is to call back every week or two and get a progress report thus indicating that we haven't died of old age and are indeed still waiting for installation.

You guys make me feel fortunate.

I waited 2.5 months, only made one call to check the progress after one month (no progress) and then they pitched up and did the installation.
The funny part is I live in the bush with the closest city/town 40km away (PTA).

funny that...I went through the same thing, might have even got the same number of mr pieters. dude to be honest there's nothing you can do until someone from telkom or one of the contractors phone you to confrim the order. there's a cue a mile long and your lucky day will come sometime. until then try keep your mind off telkom.

Escalate a port???

Hey guys, i phoned today for my progress check, still nothing, but this time they told me there were no ports avaliable on our exchange and that they have to escalate a port. They also said they would "Call Me" when something happens

Does anyone know how long it roughly takes to escalate a port....
I'm really gettin pissed off now

Thanks

Here is a prime test case for ICASA's new regulations as they state that the installation time from date of order can take no longer than 30 days.

So, I suggest you contact ICASA directly with your complaint, both verbally and in writing.

Lets see what the regulator says about your six and a half month wait.

Here's their webpage detailing the procedure you need to follow with contact details.

http://www.icasa.org.za/Content.aspx?Page=128

I for one would be very interested to see what our regulator does (if anything) about this injustice.

I actually got through today - and here's the bad news.

The port project in Durbanville is scheduled to be completed end October. After that 7 to 10 working days for the installation.

On pointing out the new regulations the lady shot back with ( obviously had this one before .. ) ' provided the infrastructure is available '.

Thus ' adsl enabled ' = ' have ports available '.

Now we dont know whether they have ports available - so they are free to use this as an out.

I'm afraid this new clause is not worth the paper it is written on.

Hmmm, the infamous port project :) I've ordered 20 June at the Menlyn shop, at which time the exchange was in planning phase a.k.a. ran out of ports. After a number of visits, each time being handed the phone by customer care (after they were holding on for at least 10-15 min :D) to speak to whomever on the other side, I was eventually, after 11 weeks, given a date when they would be able to give me a more accurate date :D.....Feb 2007. Needless to say, I've decided to go to another provider

I would like to see that clause challenged Dave. I myself interpret it completely differently.
If an exchange is currently supplying adsl it is adsl enabled, so if your neighbour or people in your area have adsl then Telkom have got 30 days to deliver yours.

Don't get your hopes up about getting ADSL installed after the project completion date.

Since May they have extended the date for my exchange 4 times.

As do I on both comments - but the wording is vague and any lawyer will find room for doubt as to the correct meaning.

I know it's been said before but the little guy really has no chance of contesting this in court so telkom wins - always.

Personally i think this whole ports upgrade or project thing is a load of manure
its one of many excuses they used on me in fact they told me on monday that it would take at least 3 months to upgrade for my line.
then a mate of mine phoned a mate that works for telkom and today wednessday I am happy to say I am up and running everything. and to be honest the telkom guys that did the installation were very helpfull and could not believe i had been waiting so long. they were at my place until 630 pm making sure everthing was set up right.

This is pathetic....

Honestly, if i have to wait till January 2007, i might aswell just wait another month or 2 and go with Neotels broadband

Seriously, don't hold your breath.
I waited 6 months for my installation.
A mate of mine waited 7 months, then the Telkom contractor came and fixed the cabling etc in his house, but he had to wait a further 5 weeks to have the exchange connection done.
A business ADSL line was just installed today (no exchange connection yet) - that took 4 months of waiting.

The excuse for the delays for all those installations was..... you guessed it. No ports available.

Ok, this was weird. I ordered ADSL last Friday (8th of Sept), as I am leaving Sentech end of October.
I tought that the ADSL installation will hopefully be installed by then. To my surprise, telkom phoned me today (14th Sept) ,at about 5PM, to find out if it is ok if they come through to my house to install it right NOW. Now, I did not even have a analogue line - I have tried not to touch them with a 10 foot pole.
The guy just left (8PM). Did his tests and stuff. Line installed. He said that he just needs to submit the stats, and when I get home tomorrow, it will be up and running. He actually used his own account to show me the speed, and it was working. So, without a phone line, to a fully installed 512KB ADSL, in less than 5 working days. WTH ?? Now I need to find a modem TOMORROW :)

6 months of waiting to be told that I cannot have a line, no reasonable explanation given...The sooner Neotel provides service the better

ps. I'll sell you my wireless modem/router and usb wireless adapter...call me if interested
