Here are the companies that applied for new spectrum

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has received six applications in response to the Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the IMT spectrum issued on 2 October 2020.

Submissions were received from all of South Africa’s major telecommunications players:
  1. Cell C
  2. Rain Networks
  3. Vodacom
  4. Telkom
  5. Liquid Telecoms
  6. MTN
In terms of the ITA, ICASA has made available the IMT spectrum bands in the 700MHz, 800MHz, 2,600MHz, and 3,500MHz bands for assignment to qualifying applicants.

Can you imagine what a waste it would be if Rain got some?
Its going to be interesting to see what happens with data prices after the spectrum is allocated.

all companies which already have high-demand spectrum...be interesting to know how many lots are being bid for...

The requirement for country coverage basically disqualified everyone else. Dumbest moves as usual by government.

They will probably, based on who owns one of the majority shares.

Do Cell C have money for upcoming auction or they will loan money? And since Cell C is big Mobile Virtual Network Operator this means MTN will get free pass on Cell C new spectrum

Rain services won't improve over night even with spectrum but if Rain gets sub 1Ghz might help the signal strength issue even if is 10mhz I don't know how will Rain address coverage obligations

Liquid Telecom must not get anything they gonna use that spectrum for rent so no competition there, Liquid Telecom is currently not adding any value to the market especially in 4G arena

MTN is going to use Dynamic Spectrum Sharing tech to roll out 5G quickly to small provinces which is good thing and I know MTN won't reduce GB price by much but am happy with true national coverage

Telkom won't roll out 5G anytime soon they rather use sub 1Ghz spectrum for rural area 4G coverage which is also good thing

Vodacom will use spectrum to offer faster internet speed in limited areas they will trying to claim fastest 5G network status prices will remain the same

My view is coverage obligations set by icasa are necessar
