619 problem in Kempton Park

Hi there

Is anyone experiencing a problem in Kempton Park with their 3G connectivity. Since yesterday (Thursday) I have been getting the 619. I have two machines that can use my card, and they are both giving the same problem, so it is not the PC. It does not matter if I use 3G or GPRS, the result is the same.

I stay in Birch Acres. My signal is quite strong. I last had the 619 about a month ago, and it lasted for about a day.

Anyone else?

Hi there

No, I only use my 3-G account sim. I logged on to vodacom in Kempton Central yesterday afternoon, with no problems. Last night I could not get in, and this is still the situation (From Birch Acres). I'm not too worried about my hardware or the sim, as I've had the 619 before, and it has corrected itself. Can anyone tell me what is the technical cause of the 619 - probably at the relay or antenna?

Thanks, and regards

Ian

I have been getting the same problem, also since yesterday, in the Protea Park area of Rustenburg.

If I keep on retrying, it eventually says SIM not ready. :(
But in the mornings and late at night it is pretty useable, but during the day, it is impossible to keep a connection for more than 5 seconds, and then that error 619 comes at me all the time.

I am really starting to get p'd off at this, I don't pay R499 per month only to use it during certain times, and then it is still highly unstable. Plus vodacom has taken the liberty to start billing me R599 for some reason. So I have been reversing the debit order and paying the R499 I am supposed to. I will keep doing this until the billing department gets their g*t into rat.

I even have a support ticket number for the billing problem, and nothing has been rectafied yet!

If after I get the 619 on 3G, I shutdown the Dashboard, remove the Novatel card, re-insert it, select the GPRS-only profile, and I can log on. To be honest, I can't really complain about Vodacom's service, it was a month ago that I got the last 619. I have a feeling there is an explosion of 3-G customers and resulting overload on the network. Probably find Cell-C and Virgin utilising the same network? I'm in IT, and I know how hard it is to cope with exponential growth. But I'm also paying for a service I'm not getting - must get it fixed.

Third day without 3G. Contacted 3G helpdesk again, took about 15 calls before I was dealt with decently. Old call was incorrect, they had to open a new call. They finally accept it is not a problem on my side. Now maybe I'll see some results...in the meantime, still connecting with GPRS, which is really hampering my website development business. Ian

Ian, you and I are in the same boat, I am developing the website that is linked below, and I am really becoming frustrated. Even GPRS is dropping out for me now. I am forced to leave limewire open just to keep the connection live!

I contact the 155 help desk last night and they said it is not a problem on my side, and they took down various hardware details and said they are forwarding it on to techies who will assess the situation. So we will see if anything comes of it.

Btw, if anyone wants to know, my support ticket number is AS-UHB0-G248K and I must say that the lady that helped me was very polite and managed to calm me down before she started taking down details. Vodacom, you have some very good support staff, only a dissappointment when so many others don't care :p
One up for the lady that helped me :D

*wipes tears from eyes*

Good luck Ian. You still have a long struggle ahead of you.

And yes, I agree that it may be the service's growth that is the cause of this but I'm still paying and the quality of my connection in the last month has not been what it was last year, and that's not good enough.

One of the support people promised to hurry-up the technicians when I said I was a web-dev. Luckily, that doesn't rely on the 3g connection. Unfortunately, my wife's billing for her business does.

Well, a techie contacted me and told me to do a firmware upgrade from Vodacoms website. Done that and I received two 619 errors before it connected. Now we will see for how long it stays connected :p

Edit
Did not fix the problem

Don't you want to PM me your data card number?

The Limewire bit seems to indicate you *still* suffer from the downlink-stop problem.

Hello. My data card phone number is 0829287609. I tested at work (JHB Central) this morning, and everything is fine. The problem must be in Kempton Park, or the closest relay station / tower to my house in Birch Acres ext. 12.

I did get a call and an email from Julian Major, whom I updated with this status.

Many thanks

Ian

Hi there. My call number is BS-VIWS-4U5JO. I have been without 3G in Birch Acres since last Thursday. I'm trying to squeeze in my web development at work, in JHB - very stressful...

Hi Ian,

I don't know if this is in any way related.

I usually use my MTN prepaid card in my Option data card in my desktop at home in Elspark area. This morning I got disconnected, and when trying to connect it gave me this 619 error.

I got to work in Kempton this morning and tried again on my laptop. Same 619 error. I then used my voda prepaid card and it connected. Checking my APN, revealed it was set on 'internet', both on my laptop and at home. I changed this to 'MyMTN', and guess what, my MTN sim connected.

I know Vodacom only uses the 'internet' or 'internetVPN' APN's. But having the wrong one can give you the 619 error. So it might be worth checking your APN.

Cheers

Mtn uses "internet" as well the mymtn, both work. MyMTN is more for the cell uses that only want to use mms. The intenet APN works fine. Error 619 is generally a signal error. You may see signal on the dashboard but the network doesnt see you, if you change your profile to GPRS only , you would probably make a connection rite? So then we know you card is working and seeing your PC , and if you create a 3G only connection you may get 619 errors, normally it is the 3G signal is just too weak..

Hi Rehd,

I tried GRPS and 3G on the 'internet' APN, but no luck. I am aware that we can use the 'internet' APN on MTN, as I have been doing so for the past few months. The question is why it would suddenly not allow me to connect on both 3G and GPRS.

My 3G signal is usually 3 to 4 bars and quite stable.
