63 Zone Metering System

Does this work by dividing the screen into 63 zones and metering each for light - either under or over exposing each?

Does that mean that it would be more difficult to get - for example - a silouette of something/someone in front of a sun?

Or would be an option in metering ie spot, centre, 63 zone - so can be turned off?

Are you referring to the 7D/60D metering system?

Zone metering meters for the entire scene and sets the exposure accordingly, it doesnt increase the dynamic range.

If you wanted to correctly expose the person you'd probably be better off using spot metering but the bright background would probably be blown out.
