Hi Guys

Currently have 6600gt 256MB GDDR3 128bit XFX card.
Built new PC and plan to hand 6600gt to my boy and get me a 7600gt.

Looking at a Chaintech 7600gt 256MB DDR3 256bit card. I plan to run this card in SLI in the future....

Any thoughts and cons about this card .... and the SLI configuration.

Is anyone out there running a SLI rig with the 7600gt?

PS.
I have also looked at the ASUS and XFX cards. Chaintech gives a 3 year guarantee on the card. Also memory is very important on with SLI so I am looking for no less than 256MB

Any critique would be welcome....

Regards

SDD

PPS. Alternatively I can get me another 6600gt ... but I have not heard reviews for anyone out there running a dual 6600gt rig.

The 7600GT is an excellent mid-range card and is a better choice than 2x6600GT's. Those are going to use more power, generate more heat and noise, without gaining that much in terms of performance.

Similarly, rather than looking to get 2x7600GT's, rather opt for a single 7900GT. They're about R1,000 more than the 7600GT's. So you could either sell the 7600GT later on, or keep the 6600GT for another few months, whilst saving for the 7900GT.

If you do choose that route though, take care to avoid the 7900GT's which are factory-overclocked (usually branded as higher, or extreme performance series).

Honestly, SLI and Crossfire are not everything they're expected to be. You get about 70-80% more performance, for double the price (and double the hassles with stability, heat and noise). For 50-70% more in cost, rather buy a more expensive model, that also delivers 50-70% performance, without the added hassles.

(just my 2c...)

i am not sure how much that card is

but i would say rather go and buy a 7900gt for around R2600.00
then if in the future you feel you need more just add a second one

im not sure if 2 7600's could beat 1 7900 gt

and im also not sure the price difference

I am also looking at it from a financial and upgrade viewpoint ... I dont have the bucks to splash out in excess of R3k for a graphics card right now ... but for say R1600 I can get the 7600gt and play most of todays games decently ...

Then say next year get another 7600gt as an upgrade and hopefully the prices would have come down ....

well depending on what your looking for you might wanna wait for that extra cash

i mean a 7900 gt will last a damn long time

but that 7600gt will play most games almost full res
depending on your other components like cpu ram etc

If you shop around, you can buy a 7900GT for R2,600 - R2,900, especially from some (reliable!) sellers on local forums.

You will be fine with a 7600GT too, but I'm far more in favour of 1x7900GT now, than 2x7600GT's.
