Hi there,

So i have the internet 5 promo from 8ta and have been using it perfectly without hassle since I got it about a year or even more ago.

About 3 weeks ago the sim card just stopped picking up in my 8ta branded Huawei modem. I called customer care and was advised that it was a common fault on their older sim cards and that I should get a sim swap to one of the newer sims.

The past weekend I did just that and got the sim swap. Upon getting home I plugged in my modem and tried to connect, I noticed that under the network status section it said MTN? (Telkom Roaming). The internet did not work.

I went to a telkom direct store yesterday to get assistance and was advised that the older sim cards were hardcoded to only pick up the 8ta network and that the newer sims were programmed to go over to MTN if the 8ta signal is bad.

That is all good for network but I DO NOT HAVE ANY ACCESS TO THE INTERNET OR DATA! Could you please sort this out Telkom mobile? I have never missed a payment on my account and have been supporting your network for a while now so some assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you

You have to disable roaming on your device. Are you using Huawei dashboard? Some versions allow disable roaming as an option or alternatively you can chose manual network search and select TM. You didn't mention model number of your device, so it is the best I can say now.

Hi lloydb

Welcome to the forum.

I think you might be experiencing the same problem a friend is having with Telkom Mobile(Network Only), over the months the signal in her area has deteriorazed to such an extent whereby she gets no signal whatsoever but upon doing investigation at her premises noticed the signal now only reaches her front door.

Do some troubleshooting: If you have a notebook walk around your premises, backyard, driveway and see if you able to pick up any signal whatsoever. Also do a manual network search until you find network 655-02(Telkom Mobile Network), select that network. If you do pick up any signal then unfortunately you will have to invest in an antenna as more, more, more people are joining the Telkom Mobile network in your area.

Once you do get any connectivity, make sure your firmware is up-to-date.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you kindly for your suggestions. Telkom has made contact with me and they are trying to help me with this. So ya, lets wait and see what happens.

Thanks once again.
