8ta internet promo 5 10GB deal ending this month?

Just wondering if the 8ta internet promo 5 10GB deal is ending this month?

Also, I would like to know what happens when my contract reaches 24 months. Will it automatically start charging me R950 or do 8ta give me the option to carry on with it?

Is it possible to renew it, or must you get a brand new sim and contract?

A contracts is legally binding for 24 months, and there should be no reason that you are not allowed to upgrade at the end. If you do not upgrade your cell phone / data contract runs on a month to month basis where you no longer pay the promotional price. So if you do not upgrade you will pay more per month than you do now.

Since Telkom won't stop selling mobile data they should migrate existing users to Telkom Mobile, but we will have to wait and see what happens. I can't see them needing to issue you a new SIM when you renew, but at this stage anything is possible.

(Source: I used to sell and upgrade contracts)

I just saw on 8ta's Facebook page that the 10GB promo is expiring end of this month. :(

They did mention this last year when they extended the initial date... Still mulling over whether I should get this or the Cell C 5+15 offer...

Hope they don't release one cheaper than the expiring one

Yours will only expire when your 24 months are up

Yes, but then I would need to take out a new one now, for the next 24 months.

Damn, if 8ta/Telkom can just give more info on the LTE bundles, what it will cost and when it will launch in Cape Town.

Don't want to pay for something I won't need when the bigger LTE bundles are here. *sigh*

When did this promotion start?
I think the first group of people who took this promo out should start preparing their cancellation letters, to avoid nasty surprises.

After the 24 months, you'll start paying R950 a month.

Is there an easy way via USSD or the 8ta website to determine when your contract ends?

Phoned the call center 3 times today, 3 different people.

They all say that you will be on month to month and continue to pay R199 for 10gigs as long as the contract is active.

I'll be honest with you, 8ta personnel are all completely clueless.

I went to an 8ta shop yesterday and not one of the sales people there knew that the 10GB promo is ending on 31 March.

Don't think they get any communication from HQ. They are on their own.

I still haven't seen a press release on their website http://www.8ta.com/news/ if indeed it is true. I am very disappointed cause Mobile Internet is more affordable than fixed line internet AKA Telkom luxury tax

I just had a Telkom / 8TA agent phone me and tell me that my contract is due for renewal soon (mentioned the 26th) and that I can renew it and get a new device, strange I never got a device on the data contract. Told the lady that I don’t really want to renew the contract and just want it to go on month to month, she then told me that I must either renew or cancel it as the data won’t work correctly after the renewal date, you know the 10GIG, when I asked what is it that working work correctly she could not give me answer.

WTF???

Had the same happening to me.

Also got a phone call, but not gonna renew it.

Was posted somewhere else that 8ta will make an announcement about the LTE data bundles soon.

Sounds right, I was on a 2 year deal with Cell C and when the 2 years were over I kept it on a month to month basis for the same price for another year
