What's going on, 8ta? Speeds in Blairgowrie, Randburg are absolutely abysmal. I'm not the only one, others have reported the similar speed problems in the suburb (#post7305901, #post7305869)

Since the 22 November I have not been able to get faster than 0.86Mbps download! Worst was 0.30Mbps!! (http://speedtest.net/result/1606613090.png)

At the moment I can't even get to the speedtest.net website nor the mybroadband site, I have to post this via my MTN phone.

I have sent 5 emails to social@8ta.com, I left a complaint on the website and the only contact I've had from 8ta was a misguided sales person trying to sell me a phone contract. The silence is deafening.

I just want the speed back but that's not happening so I guess it's time to investigate my legal options and rights as a consumer to get out of this contract.

Yeah, I am so tired of this. Even brought mine to work today to see if it isn't maybe the signal at home but it still sucks.

does the Rosebank/Hongkong fault maybe have something to do with this?

Relatively speaking rosebank/randburg are not that far from eachother. & as 8ta is telkom owned & IF the main net supply for that area originates in rosebank then it's not impossible.

Still no change but at least I've had 2 emails from 8ta, wow!

The response: We have escalated the matter with our technical division for further investigation.

putt putt...

(Jhercules, have you reported the problem? Any response?)

Still no resolution to this, speeds slower than ever today (0.25mbps download) and no further communication from 8ta.

If anyone is thinking of signing up - DON'T! Rather choose another connection method / company as you won't get much joy from 8ta.

(0.35Mbps D/L!!!)

So what could my problem be, is it hardware? I'm using an Android HSDPA 7.2Mbps phone tethered to Win XP home. Signal strength is between -95 and -91 dbm. Preferred network type is WCDMA. APN is correct. Speed tests inside or out are very similar.

Nothing further from 8ta, unbelievable!

OK it's not my hardware, I drove about 3km from Blairgowrie and got a download of 2.71Mbps from the Rosebank server.

Back home I can't get more than 0.51Mbps

Good Day

Please kindly note that we have requested feedback from the Network Dept regarding your query.

We will provide you with one as soon as they get back to us.

Thank you.

Any news on this? Mine runs at constant +-1Mbps the last few days which is okay I guess, but i used to get 3-5Mbps... I phoned them, but I'm moving in a few weeks so won't even bother getting them out to have a look.

Technician came Wednesday (3 weeks after I first reported the problem). He tested the speed with his modem on his computer & his modem on my computer, speeds wouldn't exceed 0.4Mbps download. He said he two towers closest to me were not the tower we were connecting to but he couldn't understand why, said he would follow up.

He then got a call to go attend to a "VIP" client and promised to return Friday. He didn't, but no surprise there. Speeds still around 0.3-0.5Mbps download.

am in northwold. 3g has been consistent since i got it 4 months ago. average around 150-200kb/s down.

seriously happy with the product having had really bad "4mb" adsl when i lived in northcliff, i rather have a consistent down speed than the bragging rights for a freak speedtest.net that happens once a year.

using a huawei e220 on my ubuntu box, no antenna or the like. not the best kit, if that helps at all..

Apparently they don't believe you when you run your tests. They think we are idiots and they come and tell us what we told them .
