8ta's I5 Promo doesn't work in most towns so now what?

I've got the 10GB special from 8ta and while it performs beautifully in Jhb, I can't get coverage in most of the big towns across SA.
The coverage map indicated that I would get a 3G signal but it appears I was looking at the wrong map.
I5 has its own coverage areas and is extremely limited so what are my alternatives.

Would 8ta prepaid work in places like Vryburg, Upington, Klerksdorp?

Look on the coverage map, it will tell you where it will or won't work.

Make sure you select only 3G and not EDGE as well.

It depends on which prepaid you buy.

The 2+1 and 60+60 will only work in the same aras as the I5, because it is restricted to the 8ta towers.

The other prepaids roam on MTN 3G, so will also work anywhere where MTN 3G works. But note that these bundles are more expensive.

On a positive note at least Thaba Nchu and Botshabelo is covered.


I need a cheap alternative to do basic surfing when I visit these towns.
Maybe 1 or 2 gigs prepaid.
Any specials atm.Don't need modem.

Here is a solution get redundancy internet. Purchase a gig200 cell c prepaid, 8ta 60gig-60gig, Vodacom once-off 2gig per month x 12 for R1000*not sure if its still the same*

AFAIK it was clearly explained to all prospective I5 customers before they purchased the product. You had to supply your home address and they would confirm coverage before selling the product to you. Has this changed?

Yes, they won't sell it to you if you don't have coverage. In this case I think the OP has moved or travelled.
