There are stores that sell motors left right and centre. Even scrap yards sell them.

bit the bullet and took the car to the mech, he stripped and and confirmed no damage to the bottom end and has sent the head to engineering to get skimmed, should havvit back by friday

Its still with the mechanic, engineering confirmed some other damage that had to get repaired. I will update with better details tomorrow after chatting with the mech. This is getting expensive :(

Sounds a bit on the high side for a head-job :D
...but the mechanic did take it apart and reassemble it.

On my golf it was about R1.8k just for the work on the Head. Took the head to a engineering place in PTA that did it for me.

My head was about R750... skim and new valve stem seals. I supplied the stem seals, reassembled the engine.. Corolla 16v 1600 engine.

New cambelt, tensioner, water pump, v-belt, 10 new valves, stem seals, strip/reassemble and general head overhaul - no skimming - R27k

It is fixed, doesn't feel the same tho, but ill adjust. The head was warped, dont ask me the details, for some reason every time the mechanic started talking my brain shut down. Now I understand how my dad feels when I try to explain Fresnel or hyper-visor to him. .
