99 Cents Contract vs 99 Cents Topup

I'm thinking of moving my cellphone contract to Cell C as their current contract offerings look really appealing.

I've only got 2 questions before I make my decision and I hope somebody can clear this up for me:

1) What is the difference between the Contract and Topup packages?

2) Is there a reason why certain contracts are cheaper on the Topup packages than on the Contract packages? An example is the Galaxy S3 on the straight up 100 contract, R433 on Topup compared to R449 on Contract.

Thanks in advance

The most basic difference between topup and a std contract is that on topup you need to buy prepaid airtime when your topup contract amount is finished if you still want to call that month.

Both are contracts so if you sign for say 12 months you are liable for that contract period.

So am I correct in saying that the premium you pay on the Contract package is basically for the convenience of not having to buy airtime when you run out?

If so I'll save myself a few Rand and go with the Topup package.

The convenience is you won't get cut-off midway into a call if your monthly allocation runs out.
Also, international roaming is very limited on topup, if at all available.

Conversely, the convenience of topup is that you can budget and there's no possibility of bill shock.

Could be a mistake, normally topup contracts are more expensive because the operator knows they can't make more money out of you.

Lekker! Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Any negatives regarding Cell C? People seem to be generally pleased with the service.

If you did Top Up, Does the unused airtime carry over to the next month? OR any additional months?

The best thing to do is to get a prepaid test sim and load a few rands and Cell C for yourself (see what i did there :whistling:). Generally they are very good within major cities/town but always better to make sure with a prepaid first
