Digital and IT professionals are leaving the country in growing numbers, causing a shortage of skilled workers in the sector.
But but, just the other day you guys said we are screwed as there is a decline in jobs available to us :(

Is there still a large corporate in RSA who hasn't outsourced their IT to India ?
Discovery, Standard Bank, ABSA, Takealot, Outsurance...

Besides, outsourcing to India is the same as using SharePoint: You only do it once, realise your mistake and then spend a lot of money to fix it and vow to never do it again.

Lol at those leaving thinking they are special and can't replaced. I have news for you, you're a dime a dozen.
If they were a dime a dozen we wouldn't have it so easy finding work. There's definitely a shortage of skilled developers. Has been the case for the last two decades if not more.

Yip, it’s awesome being a developer. Lots of options. But don’t fool yourself, you are replaceable.

This is a tremendous opportunity for those that stay.
If you are white, management positions will not open up to you. Have a family member in a senior position at a very large corporate. They are not permitted to promote or employ anymore whites unless with specific approval to do so. Maybe work will be easy to come by through consulting. Don't expect to climb any career ladder.

Senior developers do not automatically make good managers.

You don't know what you are talking about. The IT skills we require are not available. Period. Those skills have to be brought in from abroad and cost a cool few million a year.
