A designer who helped roll out FNB's first logo still thinks the 'AK-47' was deliberate

Designer probably miffed that he is not going to get royalties for his artwork anymore

I bet you whoever saw that as an AK, probably sees their car keys and thinks it's a Glock. Like holy hell if anything that could be a bullpup, but some reaaaaaaaal stretching.

Also the new logo looks like some crazy art major who does nothing but makes every creative logo turn into simplified un-enjoyable circles and squares.

Won't surprise me. The First Rand Group always supported communism, back then and today as well.
Not quite right, First Rand was not even on the scene back then. When Barclays disinvested Anglo America bought them out, it was only much later that Anglo sold their stake to Rand Merchant Bank which after various mergers and take overs became First Rand. When Anglo sold, RMB only wanted some business sectors excluding the Retail divisions but Anglo and the shareholders insisted all or nothing.

The whole tree rabbit/AK thing is nonsense and pure propaganda, there were hundreds of designs put forward.
