Hi guys
This year I became involved in a dream-come-true project and I thought I’d share it with all of you.
I am fourth year mechanical engineering student at Cape Peninsula University of Technology and in the beginning of the year I heard about a project that one of our research labs were involved in. The project, named Formula Student is an international project hosted by SAE. Universities from around the world design, manufacture, test and race a formula style racing vehicle. The event takes place at Silverstone International GP raceway in England.
I applied to be involved for my final year project and was accepted. CPUT and NMMU are the only two universities in the country that offer this project. This is the third season that CPUT (Cape Speed) is competing following a very impressive overall position of 45th out of 112 teams in 2014. We are aiming to break the top 30 this time round and I’m feeling very confident that we will.
The project covers various different aspects of the motor racing industry, not only the engineering. We are involved in costing, procurement procedures, marketing, project management, manufacturing etc.
The competition of course has lots of rules and regulations on how the car must be designed and built but I don’t want to make this post too long. If people are interested I will happily continue posting more information and progress of the project.
Funding for a project like this also plays a huge role. We rely on sponsors for most of our funding for the project. If anyone is interested in this project and would like to contribute and help us with funding in any manor, whether it be materials, marketing, anything please inbox me.
Otherwise if any of you guys would like to hear more about this project I can keep this thread updated or you can follow our team Cape Speed at the following links. (Our Facebook and Twitter page are still showing last year’s details but our Instagram page is up to date. Facebook and Twitter should start updating soon.)
