So how many devices actually support the barcodes or is it just a niche audience?

Question came out wrong, how many phones already have barcode technology onboard.

What's the point of using it as a marketing tactic to get people onto your website if they need to use the internet for the download first.

My guess, if I'm not wrong about the intall requirement, is it'll become popular as soon as most phones have it on already.

Tnx for the address @Zaphod

I do not think there are many phones in SA that come pre-installed with the barcode reading S/W. (if any)

However in Japan it is a different case. The S/W is pre-installed on most of the phones in Japan.

Apparently you see these barcodes everywhere there. On billboards, at tube stations, etc.

Mmm another idea which is not going anywhere. Who cares that we have 30 million subscribers? I'm sure that 29.99 million of those subscribers can't afford to, don't want to, don't know how to download content to their phone. You'd think that these people actually went to business school and should know that almost none of those subscribers would use this service.

I tried a barcode decoder on my N80, but found it was too sensitive to camera shake, angle etc. The next generation will be better.

Scanning the barcode with my 6110 Navigator works perfectly, even from the PC screen.

The redirect doesn't seem to work. The web page does not load & the screen remains blank, even with a HSDPA connection.

Has anyone managed to download the software?? I have tried a few links and have even had it sms'd to me, I just get a blank screen on a 3G connection. It is supported by my phone I checked.

Downloaded without a problem yesterday. Now I get a blank screen as well.

Still not able to connect to the site although the barcode is read & URL confirmed.

^ Ok thanks :) so perhaps just a problem with their site. I have already e-mailed them about it.

I see you can create your own smartcodes too and link it to any website etc.. seems cool to play around with but I don't know about the practicality. You might as well just state the URL. :/

A real 'first for cell users' would be value for money and not some new gimmick.
