A new VW Tenacity, should I buy it?

I'm seriously thinking of buying a new VW Tenacity. I currently don't have a car, I travel by taxi, bus and my trusty pair of sneakers :p. As most of you know, public transport is not good in this country, and having the freedom to go almost anywhere you want to go, at any time is very appealing to me, unlike being restricted by public transport. Hence me planning to get my own car.

Do you guys think that purchasing a new VW would be a good move? I would like a new car because I prefer a car that will last me for atleast 6 or more years, a second hand car might be previously owned by a person who didn't exactly take care of his/her car and I don't wish to be burdened with car problems caused by someone else.

The car is R84700, I would then add the following:
Metallic / Pearlescent Paint - R720.00
14″ Alloy Spare Wheel - R540.00
Central Locking - R1,270.00
Radio / CD - R3,180.00
14″ Alloy Wheels - R1,670.00
Security Package - R810.00
Service Plan “Bolt-on” (0 – 60,000km) - R3,909.00
Maintenance Plan “Bolt-on” (0 – 60,000km) - R6,442.00

http://www.vw.co.za/models/citi/pricesandoptions/

The total comes to about R102,521.00, and I would then pay about R2,150.00 per month, excluding insurance.

So, what do you think?

I would say do NOT.

For that money you can get a modern car.

Or a really nice 2nd hand one which is only a few years old.

Are you fscking nuts?

R100k for a fscking 30yr old P.O.S.?!?!?!?!?!?!

Give me the R100k and I'll find a better way of killing you for less money.

No, dude... just... no.

R100k will buy you a very decent nearly-new car. Even R60k will buy you reliable wheels for 6+ years. ****it, spend R100k on a pair of imported, gold-crusted new sneakers and it will be money better spent than on a new CITI.

Got duped into buying a new Citi?

I would say do NOT.

Just to add to that - HELL NO! You can get a 2006 Polo 1.6 Comfortline with low kilometers and in mint condition for that R100 000. If, however, you really want a Citi, get a 2004 model 1.4i (plain, not the Velociti). Just remember that this is coming from a Citi owner. Also keep the fuel cost, maintenance and insurance premiums in mind when you are calculating whether you can afford the car.

Go the 2/3 year old Polo route before even thinking new Citi!

I am a total VW fanatic and have had many many Citis over the years, but its time has come. I will never forget driving a friend's brand new Citi after driving my Polo for 60 000km...it made me appreciate every aspect of my Polo!!

I really hope it is true that they are discontinuing the Citi next year. It's about time.

That's not to say I don't love my 05 Velo :)

They have already stopped building them. That is why VW is running the Celebrity Series of races in 1.6 Citi's at the moment...a farewell tribute.

Kinda off topic. how is the Citi when it comes to fuel consumption?
Is there any gadget one can get to make a car (CITI) use less fuel if so what, where?

I had one as a rental car for two weeks when I wrote my car off and I was amazed at how frugal the thing was and I drove it hard (hey, it's a rental). i reckon they are light on juice, just kept on going & going on the same tank.

I was depressed to find out that the trade value on my 2007 Polo 2.0i is around 110k. My bet is that you could probably find a 2007 1.4i or 1.6i retailing for the same price.

You see this is the fuel that keeps my GHOLPH hate burning...the OP obviously thinks very lowely of him-/herself when considering paying 3k+ for a CD player and even paying for the spare wheel as an extra! SHOCKING. Dude, you like VW, why not consider a nice second hand Polow with under 10k km's on the clock and with motorplan for the same price or a couple hundred more...Then there's the Golf4...for that SAME price...

But for now your best bet is Polow, you even get ones with rims and sound fitted that the same price as that...and have maybe leather and aircon and ABS and power steering...please tog just sit down for a moment and think!
