search the forums for pics of citis that have been wrapped around trees and then decide whether you still want one

I'm seriously thinking of buying a new VW Tenacity. I currently don't have a car, I travel by taxi, bus and my trusty pair of sneakers :p. As most of you know, public transport is not good in this country, and having the freedom to go almost anywhere you want to go, at any time is very appealing to me, unlike being restricted by public transport. Hence me planning to get my own car.

Do you guys think that purchasing a new VW would be a good move? I would like a new car because I prefer a car that will last me for atleast 6 or more years, a second hand car might be previously owned by a person who didn't exactly take care of his/her car and I don't wish to be burdened with car problems caused by someone else.

The car is R84700, I would then add the following:
Metallic / Pearlescent Paint - R720.00
14″ Alloy Spare Wheel - R540.00
Central Locking - R1,270.00
Radio / CD - R3,180.00
14″ Alloy Wheels - R1,670.00
Security Package - R810.00
Service Plan “Bolt-on” (0 – 60,000km) - R3,909.00
Maintenance Plan “Bolt-on” (0 – 60,000km) - R6,442.00

http://www.vw.co.za/models/citi/pricesandoptions/

The total comes to about R102,521.00, and I would then pay about R2,150.00 per month, excluding insurance.

So, what do you think?

Dont!!
First off, dont pay for that radio. You can buy a better one for R800. Or even find someone who will give them their old one. I gave mine away.

Whats in the security package?

You only saving R2000 with that maintenance and service plan, maximum a service would be is R2000. I honestly dont think you need either of them.

The wheels, I dont see the point in paying extra for those wheels, Im sure you can get them cheaper somewhere else or even get a better set.

I say go for central locking and paint only. Also pay for it in cash, DO NOT FINANCE AN EXTRA 2 - 3000!!!

And insurance will be hard to get and the car has already been discontinued... so it will lose value faster, the Tenaciti will, the ROX might keep it.

There are lots of VW haters on this forum, ignore them.

Buy the Golf, it's reliable and light on fuel. And never gives any problems of any sort.

Are you getting the 1.4i or 1.6i ?

Based on those 3 factors you say he must buy it? That's worse than giving your 12 year old son a condom on his first date:sick:

If we take those 3 factors as the buying criteria for the OP...he can look at a diesel VW, a Yaris, many other NEW age cars with loads of character and features the Gholph does NOT have...mate, don't buy the Gholph, rid yourself of sheepdom and open your eyes mate!

If you REALLY like a Gholph 1...Big Boss Auto is selling a CitiR with loads of stuff for less than 100k...that's a good buy:eek:

Whoa there, Kimosabe. I sold VWs for 3 and a bit years - I'm a fan. People get stuck on the 'people's car' moniker & don't realise how brilliantly engineered VeeDubs actually are - the MkV GTI is a shining example, being the hot-hatch benchmark from launch to demise...

The CITI is still shyte, though. :p

Yes why not? I'm not aware of any car being more reliable than a golf.

@ OP: why get a brand new one, where you can get a 2nd hand one for cheaper, with all those extras?

Do not buy it. Buy a used citi that has done around 60000km-80000km for around half the price. I made this mistake when i was buying my citi, i bought it brand new, boy what a mistake.

I should have bought a used one because citi golfs don't have problems. mine has done over 90000km and still no problem. i only had to replace a battery. Get a 1.4i because the 1.6i's tend to be driven like they are stolen.

you can do servicing yourself, it's very easy to maintain. parts are cheap. they only problem with them is the insurance. i never had a problem with mine thought. still love the car:D

They can be pimped easy and cheap. Great fuel consumption. easy maintenance. That's why there so many on the road. don't listen to people telling you about the safety BS, Brake pads= R200 ad midas, you can do the iol change server for less than R500 and a major one should not cost more than R1000. Don't service it at the stealers...

They do handle well on the road. My tyres still have about 40% of thread left in them. So shop around and test drive a few.

Go get it

Sigh, so much hating for the Golf 1 makes me :(

But I dont love it for a R100k. No one should ever pay more than R30k for a golf 1 - I dont care if it is a 2010 model :D

Still luv my 1st golf though (parked away somewhere safe) - Dont care what you haters say ......

i dont like VW. BUT, my first car was a citigolf and will have to admit it was one of the best cars i had. It hardly ever gave problems, they run like hell compared to similar engined cars and they are fun to "throw" around.

Please note my words : Citigolf is reliable imho. ONLY, the citigolf. Just wanna make sure my stance on VW's is not clouded here and my reputation goes byebye ;)

PS to Sapcat : Yeah but these days, i would rather be driving around a paid-off or almost paid-off Citigolf than a luxury car. I could use 5k for other things....

VW is known to be expensive with their cars, but if you have the 100k and dont worry spending it on the mk1, go ahead :)

Don't do it. In this economy, it is madness to buy a new car.

For the same money, you can find yourself a very decent 2nd hand/repossessed Polo or similar

For a 100k, check the 2nd-hand market first, some good deals there sometimes.
