I haven't read all the posts, but just my 2c ... I don't follow any religion myself, but I do respect the fact that others follow religions of their choosing, for whatever reason. I find it interesting to learn about other religions, but still have not felt the desire to commit myself to any one.

Thank you super sun bird. If someone asks my opinion, I will give it other than that I just keep myself to myself. Its easier that way

The way that you said it implies that you think he's going to hell - and whether or not you tell him is irrelevant.

To answer the question, I have nothing against anybody's belief - Christian or otherwise. I have a problem with them forcing it on others and I have a very very big problem with preaching because it irritates the crap out of me.

Anyway it's only a matter of time before that ignorant dodo shows up on this thread so I don't think I'll be adding anything further.

I have to disagree with you there. I have absolutely no problem with Safferbeauty thinking I'm going to hell. It's her own personal judgement and it would be wrong of me to want to deny her of that freedom.

At the same time I realise it's a personal judgement - just because she may think it doesn't make it any more accurate.

As long as the religious realize that their beliefs cannot be defined as rational, I have no problem with them. As soon as a christian (or member of any religion) states their belief as fact I get annoyed. When dealing with subject matter that can't be verified in anyway a speaker should always paraphrase a statement of belief with "I believe...". I find it insulting to be told "God loves you" as if it were provable fact. I find statements along the lines of "I believe that God loves you" to be far more palatable and inoffensive.
As far as I'm concerned religion is fine as long as it knows its place, which is to say doesn't set itself up in opposition to science.

What I find entertaining is when those guys, on streets corners from some church or other, ask you if you believe in god, and of course they gang up on you, but simply asking "which god?", will confuse them just long enough to escape.

PS. Sorry for the long sentence, I felt adventures.

Do you guys and girls have anything against Christian people on here like me who dont force their views on anyone. I tend to keep quiet and stay out of debates unless I feel it is really necessary to say something. I dont force my views on non christians and dont tell them they going to hell.

Just because you're not telling them to their face that they are goign to hell, doenst mean you'r enot thinking it.....being all like...."Yeah ..like whatever non-believer boy...we'll see whose laughing when I am in heaven drinking Pina colada's with Elvis and you're in hell havnig your fudge packed by a level 5 demon"

Kidding :) ...I have no problems with people of any religion if they dont get all up in my grill about God n stuff....You can believe whatever you like...thats what I firmly believe...and thats why I usually get confused when I tell people about a friend of mine hwo is satanic and they are all like...how can you be friends with a satanist.....well, if you're not Christian...how canyou be friends with a Christian? is usually what I ask them

I also have no problems with Christians and am friends with a good few. There are certain mindsets that irritate me. This isn't specific to religion though, its purely down to mindsets which refuse to acknowledge and respect the fact that alternate opinions reside outside of their own.

I have more non Christian friends than I do Christian friends and it does not bother me in the slightest. I think its good to be friends with all sorts of people because you can learn a hell of a lot as long as you have an open mind. One extremely good thing I learned from my ex is to have an open mind and he taught me how to have an open mind and to him I am eternally greatful.

I think that goes for most Christians that we end up having many non-Christian friends, I guess you would be very lonely if you chose only to have Christian friends ;)

I have NO Christian friends. I just refuse to hang with people who are all *****-sy all the time. Also, from when I was a kid and my grandparents used to take me to Church, the most boring way to spend a saturday morning, I used to get irratated by how GOOD all the people at church made themselves out to be. happens with all religionstho'..people end up trying to compete to see who is the Best Christian, or teh best Muslim and the religious emssage gets lost in the BS..however, Betty Bowers is without a doubt...the best christian in the world see www.bettybowers.com

I have no issue at all with Christian (or Jewish, Muslim or Buddhist) people. What they believe is their own business, as long as they don't bother me with it. I have many religious friends and family members.

What I do have a problem with is with religious institutions; they suppress knowledge, they rake in massive incomes while being exempt from taxes, they brainwash (and in some cases, physically harm) children, and they attempt to control the morals of all people.

I do enjoy debating religion, I must admit, but I do not do it with any malice.

As a non- christian- I read all these religious threads in anyway- some of the debates and view points are informative and interesting- Personally- I realy could not care what any-one else thinks about my belief structure. It works for me and I do not have the need to defend or explain it- neither do I require any one else to defend or explain theirs to me. To each his own.
I suggest you find a discussion where there's real discussion going on to learn from. The only real thing to be learned in those other threads is why it's pointless to try and deal with dogma with logic.

I did not mean to imply that I learned about religion as such- what interest me is the human element and the thought processes or lack there of - if you look at the general trend of these - most every one - believers and non- believers alike are hell bend on getting their specific view point across - and that it is the right one .

I have followed many links on these threads . Many interessting things has come from this- I love knowledge - and think that I can accurately enough differentiate between what fits into my own personal reality and what does not fit - which does not mean that it would not be acceptable in anothers reality.

who really gives a rats azz what one believes in or not?

And at the end of the day one actually gets a great birds eye view of just how fickle humans are when it comes to things that can not be answered.

for over 6000 years mankind has had religion and for over 6000 years man has had science.

Religion has no need to advance in terms of knowledge , science in it's nature will advance so at the end of the day you are comparing two different things.

However there is a common thread. That golden thread is belief. Some believe in science and others in the supernatural. So you ultimately waging a war on the same ground which will always end up with everyone getting confused and in the end talking about their personal feelings and yes you guessed it, their belief.

Faith vs knowledge?

It takes faith to believe in any knowledge. The knowledge that there is a God or the knowledge that their is no God. One resides in the heart and the other in the mind, but the conclusion is you are choosing to believe in something someone in history once said. (even if that history is a day old)

So the conclusion?

Humans have this tendency to choose something to believe in and they will argue, fight or kill to maintain that belief, be it science, policies and yes even religion. Humans need to believe in something and what a human chooses to believe in is a personal choice and when that choice is made NOTHING is going to change that.

I will tell you this. I have no faith in human logic but whole a bunch of faith in the human spirit.
