The ideal would have been to split Telkom up and let the units compete against each other. But that is the past. Hopefully in 3 years time we have at least 4 large telecoms companies (MTN, Vodacom, Telkm & Neotel) competing against each in the same market - that there be no difference between fixed & mobile operators. Preferably more, with these companies providing the infrastructure and more companies providing the services over the infrastructure.

I am very interested in the results of the competition tribunal enquiry into the interconnection charges charged by MTN (to CellC). According to the competition commission, MTN should charge CellC the same interconnection fees it charges Vodacom.

If this is the case, that would mean Telkom should charge VoIP providers the same rate it charges Vodacom/MTN/CellC.

Definitely some interesting times ahead...

competition

Looks like a step in the right direction, and we'll take it where we can get it! Poor ol' telkom. Geez I can't wait until the day when i don't have to use any of Telkom's infrastructure to communicate. When that day arrives Telkom can collapse in a spectacular heap, then I'll be happy

my take/guess is that in not more that 6-12 months (and possibly as early as December this year) there will be around 10 - 13 companies with the same licence and able to compete on the same (present) basis...the 4 you have mentioned (and these will prolly be the biggest) + sentech, iburst, swiftnet, CellC, Vans1 (IS), Vans2 (Mweb), Vans3 (Verizon) and Vans4 (datapro/voxtelekom)

[definitely guessing with regard to the Vans]

After reading the subtitle I thought: "Did you figure all that out all by yourself? Thanks for stating the *^%$ing obvious."
