So how are they going to determine whether you have multiple units attached to a router on your local network? Or is there some technical idiosyncracy in wireless that allows for this to be done?

I'm guessing they look for the auth signiture of the Windows PPPoE adapter, if they dont see it ... no login, unless you've paid a premium (cant find a price anywhere on their site ???)

If that's the case, what a bunch of wankers!! Always thought they were somewhat better than Sucktech, but seems they're deliberately out to prove me wrong...

Can anyone find a line in the contract stating "Only 1 PC may connect to the WBS network" or something like that?

in the uk we have similar situations whereby you register the pc that will be using the broadband (regarding cable modems)

what actually happens is that the mac address of the pc is noted on the router or whatever the company supplies...if the mac address changes then you cant connect.

It is pretty simple to spoof a mac address, and many routers etc provide a facility to enter a "user-defined" mac address.

This is useful for UK chaps as they would register a pc, note the mac address, disconnect the pc, plug in the router, override the router mac address with that of the windows pc, then change the mac of the windows pc to any other number and it all work fine again.

maybe iburst are using a similar scheme.
in which case a similar solution will work.

What dou you mean with "its back on line..."

The blocking system is back on line , or connecting with a router is back on line?

I trust it is the last option..

Connecting using a Router works again........ I am trying to find out what on earth transpired last night but not holding my breath.

I suspect testing the waters ... maybe the techies checking the new functionality of the recent tower upgrades (and we all thought this was for 2 Mbps). Wot worries me is if it was just a mistake, why would they change their FAQ ... possibly will still happen officially some time in the future ... hope I'm wrong.

Why would they want to do this?

I thought they were in the business of selling bytes, and the more PC's connected to a single connection, the more bytes they can sell per connection...

Or is it another case of logic warped by greed?

Just spoke to the helpdesk and gave them a piece of my mind. They are totally unaware of this. Charlton says that he spoke to 2nd level (whoever they are) and says that the bit in the faq just means that you will use your bandwidth up sooner so in all likelyhood it is going to cost you more - not thet you'll be charged upfront to use a router. I have now escalated the call as to why my router still cannot connect. I'm not very hopeful. Gawd dammit ! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Faaark this is frustrating!

The Linksys router is connecting now... but it seems there is a technical problem with connections... no idea why!

You know what is really sad?
A major security flaw is exposed on ibursts network allowing someone to have access to all my personel and financial details and iburst does not even have the decency to apologise, and inform me of what they are doing to correct the problem.
It actually irritates me more, there response to the situation rather than that it happened.
Sean Green you are a decent guy, dont you think iburst should come clean with its customers about what happend?
