A what if: SA loses 2010 World Cup

Just a what if scenario... What will happen if SA loses the 2010 WC, how will this influence the Rand, property prices, foreign investments, etc...

What will SA excuse be for losing the WC, except the stock standard excuses they use for everything they cant do properly.

I'm all for the WC, since it would generate wealth for the ppl.

All over the world SA is making a mockery of itself, on Survivor SA, our diplomats in the UK... people are starting to see what SA is made of, CR@P.

My personal opinion is nothing will change if we get the WC or not. Because they will find some pathetic excuse as why they failed and just continue as is.

SA won't lose the WC. No, the question is "will SA make a success of it or will the SA criminals reap the rewards"? :confused:

criminals reaping the rewards is bad in this country because its not mugging its muggings that involved rape murder possibly torture

its the sickness or crimes in this country that gets me

just steal stuff dont kill for it grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How about believing that we will make a success of it a bit of positivity would be nice.

We did it with the Rugby and the Cricket, yes the Soccer World Cup is bigger, but we can do it.

You say 'nothing will change' if we get the world cup....what are you expecting to change?

If by some miracle the present powers that be get their S^#t together and all the red tape, commitees, top, middle and lower management actually communicate and go ahead with the world cup, plus Seth decides that SA actually has the proactive and hard grafting decision makers neccessary in order to build the stadiums in time. This would be a great opportunity for SA to get back on the map. Or is it. This is a double edged sword. SA is about to spend R20 000 000 000.00 plus on this venture. The benefits to the economy would be seen in the short term, but is this actually the benefit people realise. Considering that we the tax payer is funding this venture would we see a rteturn in the short term, highly doubtful. The real benefit is the long-term beneits for this country to show we are a primary destination for tourism, direct investment and generally a good place to live. However, if we dont pull it off, we dont just lose R20 000 000 000.00 plus. We could potentially push this country backwards faster than it is actually moving at the moment (hard to believe, but not impossible). Our great leaders better make a decision to pull their and the rest of there relevant compatriots fingers out their behinds or give it to the Aussies, so atleast somebody benefits.

They will make a "Success" of it, will just lower the bar of competence, as they normally do in South Africa, to drop down to African standards and at that excel in themselves as they would believe!

No need to worry about whether we'll lose it or not, because we won't. The decision is final. Rather worry about what will happen now? The WC is in 3 years and we haven't done a damn thing yet.

erm, word to the wise ...

SA is going out in the first round ... :D

As for improving the country, get real, last I heard, building stadiums and infrastructure geared toward an event of this nature doesn't help if you need to:-

1. Build Schools
2. Build Hospitals
3. Build Courts
4. Build Jails
5. Build Community Centres
6. Provide electricity and water as basic essentials

etc. etc. etc. etc.

Still, I think SA will achieve some success with 2010 - it'll be "african style" big time, ad-hoc, hodge-podge, stuck together with bubble gum, just about functioning.

P00p I say, it's not going to have any benefit to SA at all, aside from for that short time, everyone will be focussed on the country - whether that will be a good or bad thing, time will tell ... ;)
