New traffic fines coming to 144 towns and cities in South Africa

The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) is scheduled to add 144 municipal areas to South Africa’s new traffic fine system between 1 January and 30 June 2022.

This is part of the third phase of the rollout of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) system, which is currently only live in Johannesburg and Tshwane.

Is the discounted fine after you pay the bribe.....

How about printing driving licences first you stupid muppets.
And f off if you think I'm gonna pay for a temporary licence because of your screw up.
AARTO. BWAHA BWAHAA. How is this gonna work if we don't have driving licences?
FFS.

If you keep to the rules, you should be fine. No need to jaag on the highway at 160+ kmh. Idjits in their BMWs, thinking it is the autobahn. Tsek.

Most people including myself read these traffic law related articles and just think to ourselfs "sure ok, whatever you say" because it just never happens

Yeah, unfortunately this is Africa, so even sticking to the rules won't guarantee that you will be fine  Take me for example, I got a fine for an unlicensed vehicle and not displaying a valid vehicle license in Krugersdorp last year while my car was sitting in my garage in Parkhurst. And let's not forget the overzealous traffic police who'll fine you for complete BS simply because you failed to give them KFC money.

Outa legal affairs head Stefanie Fick recently told eNCA that the appeals tribunal is important, as the Aarto Amendment Act does away with motorists’ ability to challenge fines in court.

Just keep refusing to pay and eventually you will land up in court to plead your case.

To be honest we need this. Sure if you get a pile of fines every month, then for heaven's sake it means youre a pathetic driver that shouldnt be on the road.

Alas taxi drivers get so many, so it may actually make it better for most motorists on the road. less idiots on the road honestly.

I wish they follow the Singaporean rules.

1. Pay about R100 000 just to buy a license to be able to buy a car.
2. Keep the car in good order (and clean too). Failure to do so, the car will be confiscated and scrapped.
3. Fines are much heavier, but then even jaywalking is heavily fined. So cross the freeway and you can get locked up. (something we really need). Most pedestrian deaths are due to stupid pedestrians, not just stupid drivers.
4. A car can be no older than 12 years. After 12 years, it gets scrapped. But some classics are allowed.
5. You can only renew your car license annually if you have insurance. No insurance....no car.
6. You have to put your cellphone number on your car windscreen, so in case of any issues. ie illegal parking, etc.
7. Park illegally and it gets towed (no you dont get a ticket, it gets towed.

Where did you find those Singapore rules?

Now how much is the bribe in a 60km/h area and how much in a 120km/h?
Still 2 cans of coke and a pie usually...

The bribe for them to not give you points though for random crap on the other hand, I'm expecting R1k per point will be the going rate.

4 demerit points for driving without a license??

I guess after the 4th offence they will suspend your license.

No, new rules won’t make the lawless obey them, start with the basics of enforcing the existing rules before changing them.

209km/h in a 60 zone.
Eish gimme.
This is the real world.
Problem is hitting a pothole.
6 tyres later.
