"Absa Internet Access how can I help you?"
"Your servers down?"
"No. Not at the moment. What is the problem?"
"Cannot connect to Absa..."
"Your modem. Check your modem"
"The modem is fine. I can connect to Telkom Internet"
"Check the modem. It must be your modem."
"No. It is not the modem. I can connect to Telkom..."
"Yes. The modem. Check the modem."
"It is not the modem..."
"Yes, check the modem. You must check the modem. Your modem may be corrupt. It is the modem"
"The modem is NOT..."
"Sir, you must check the modem"
"Don't worry" and I put the phone down.

"Ok I am looking at the modem, now what? Should I describe it too you, it's white with little green lights in it." :p

But seriously when you reach such an ignorant phone operator you have two choices.
1. Put down the phone and try again in hope that you might get lucky next time around.
2. Go through his modem checking steps so that he can figure out for himself that it's not your modem. This might be a lengthy process but in the end he will figure out that it's not on your side and might be able to sort it out. Very unlikely but your only option if he is the only phone operator :(

Sounds like something I would say if I wanna get off the phone and carry on with what I'm doing :p
They should hire better trained phone operators

That is the funniest thingI have ever heard. "You must check the modem. Your modem may be corrupt. It is the modem" I swear...when I read that I had a picture of Jacob Zuma on the other end of that telephone call. :)

"and if you think is not the modem...I will tell them to bring me my machine gun" :D

I once ha d a problem with one of the MWEB pop numbers giving me a authorization errror and frequent disconnects. I called mweb explaining that when I dial the local number I get problem but when I use one of the other numbers (not local or cellphone pop no.) it works fine. First they tell me to right lick on my network places, go to connection settings and check something there, then I told to close it and close all open windows, then go to control panel click Network Connections (taking me back to where I was) frustrating the hell out of me cos they did it about three times and I know all about connection settings cos I am also a pc technician, first for connection settings then modem sttings etc. Luckily I left Mweb :)
