I've had major latency and speed issues too. But I have noticed it's not confined to just Vodacom HSDPA. I'm feeling pain on Telkom ADSL and Sentech Mywireless too.

Ultimately, we all rely on SAIX/Telkom bandwidth to some extent. Just how much of this is due to the Vodacom infrastructure? Or is the problem kicking in once they start peering to other networks?

My speeds are great to Vodacom, but slows down when I go international

I know nothing about Vodacom HSPDA but my iBurst has been flying recently :D

Maybe we stole your guys bandwidth....

dbnuser you asked about iBurst... Just check their site it's all there.
I find it very reliable (I however never move mine from the house).

You can get a 9Gig unshaped for about R1100 p/m I think, What you might want to look at is signing up for a month 2 month contract for whenever Vodacom bombs on you.

You can get iBurst up and running the same day...

If you are lucky enough to be in one of the few areas where they have coverage (ie. no further out than Westville in Durban)!!:mad:

Vodacom 3G please inform us why Vodacom is failing to provide me and others with a paid for service?

dbnuser, won't you please recheck your speed (http://speed.vodacom.co.za/test/) and post here?

Some problems were rectified this afternoon that should show you a substantial improvement.

Also, where are you based? Won't you update your location info, please?

Last night speed test showed 117 kbps down, 57 kbps up. Things are looking up ... not. Connection did not stay up long enough to post these results. 155 helpdesk say they only know that there is a problem, and engineers are working on it - the engineers tell them nothing about what the problem is, what is being done about it, or when it is likely to be resolved. Grrrrr! :-(

Tried quickly this morning and was able to connect - didn't have time to do a speed check or anything like that.

HSDPA/3G is far from reliable at the moment. I'm not expecting a continous connection, and I wouldn't be upset at a disconnection every so often, but at the moment it seems like you're more likely than not to have a problem.

Is this a temporary hiccough? Until six weeks ago I didn't have a complaint about 3G - I thought it was wonderful and recommended it to anyone who was looking for a broadband connection.

Now, I am seriously considering canceling my contract and taking my business somewhere more reliable.

Im in Bloem and my Data card has practically been unusable the last week!! I cant even do the vodacom speed test. V3G I need help here.Im in the Noordstad/Aboretum area and there is a base station right behind the mall here. The signal is going from GPRS to HSDPA but I can never surf or download mail. Is there anyway of cancelling the card due to these problems and not have to pay penalties? The problems werent so bad before but now its unusable.
Eish:(

Why should you have to pay penalties? You kept your side of the deal, it's Vodacom that's not able to deliver.

I think thats the approach im gonna take. Rather get an ADSL line into my shop as it took me 2 days just to get my online payments done.Eish. I dont really want to drop the 3G cause I need it for traveling, but id rather use my cell for that.

jannie, please pm me all the details + your contact details, e-mail, etc.

A substantial load problem was corrected yesterday around 2pm, but it seems it did not help you.

I was a bit disappointed with the speed of IBurst, but at least it works and they sound like they have a clue about what they are doing.

If you a evaluating IBurst, have a look at the following (small/incomplete) set of criteria
1. Check for coverage (and damn good coverage). Get a re-seller to come to your house and test it out for you.
2. You have little or no mobility requirements
3. You would be happy with a slower connection than 3G (not slow, just slower)
4. You would be happy with the fact that uploading comes off your cap.

Thats all I can think of for now. Hope all your network issues go away and stay away!

The main reason for 3G is to be mobile!

Slow Speeds

Hi

Since this morning I am experiencing slower speeds as yesterday. When I went to the Vc speedtest I got a message that the license for the test has expired or is invalid.:confused:

I then used the speedtest from Internet Frog and got the following results

Date 4/8/06 Time 9:34

Download speed (DL) = 72,3 kbps
Upload speed (UL) = 38 kbps
Quality of Service (QOS) = 10% :eek:
Round Trip Time (RTT) = 158 ms
Max Pause = 1361 ms

Time 14:10

Download speed (DL) = 70,7 kbps
Upload speed (UL) = 26,8 kbps
Quality of Service (QOS) = 12% :eek:
Round Trip Time (RTT) = 157 ms
Max Pause = 2373 ms :eek:

Yesterday the speedtest from Vc was showing the following speed:

Date: 3/8/06
Time: 9:13

DL = 240 kbps
UL = 32 kbps

Time: 21:25

DL = 215 kbps
UL = 50 kbps

What is also a worry is that the Quality of Service is very low. I used to get 70% and higher before 19 July 2006 and since then the highest I have recorded is 51% with someting around 20% the mean with the lowest 6% ( 8 tests done over the last couple of days) However after 19 July my speed doubled (except on the bad days like last weekend and Monday and Tuesday) to over 200kbps while I hardly ever got 100 kbps before.

I have a fixed installation with two PC's coupled by cable to the 3G Linksys router (Not upgraded to HSDPA as yet). An external high gain Yagi antenna (obtained from Ellie's) is connected to the date card. The closest tower to me is the Bashewa tower, which is about 2km away. Data card is a Globe Trotter Fusion Quad Lite and I have a 64k sim card. The installation is running since beginning March 2006. My signal is good and that is all I can say about it. Signal normally stable as far as I can see.

Not the only one experiencing poor quality Vodacom 3G / HSPDA coverage.

Still having extremely sucky HSPDA / 3G coverage in Hatfield (PTA) - luckily I am on prepaid - thinking of throwing the POS away.

Would much rather go the Telkom ADSL route in the future.[/QUOTEI

I would rather have no connection than to switch back to Telkom
