I don't know, I find staring at my head kind of distracting with glossy monitors

Agreed

Maybe I should flog the Asus and get the Acer. Worried about ghosting though.

EDIT: So the Acer has scaling?

24" Acer for the win.

And I'll say it again and again and again.

Why would you want a 22" anyway if you can get the 24" cheaper. Only difference is the glossy screen and 3ms.

The 24"er is very tempting but the high res makes me nervous if i have to think what GFX card it will take to run games on it smoothly...
I have a 2232GW myself and saying i love it is a massive understatement...

@Piesand the 22" samsung is cheaper....maybe not at Incredible corruption but everywhere else...

My previous card was a 8600GT and it played COD4 very smooth at max settings. (That was the only game I played on it before I got my new card). The 9600GT plays all the games I played so far at max settings without problems.

Did you buy yours secondhand, or how did you manage to get it at that price?

Mine was a refurbished model from ther UK, Dell often auction off batches of refurbished units to keep their warehouses clean.

I bought it from a local supplier who brought in one of these batches, and I got 3 months swap out warranty from the local supplier and the balance of the 3 year warranty from Dell.

So far the monitor works 100%, havn't had any problems.

Well i have a 8800GT Alpha dog XXX ed. on my 22" and can't say everything is always maxed out and runs completely smoothly. Most of the time, but not always...and a 24" will most certainly rape it a bit at max settings....
but if it wasn't an exclusive gaming monitor then it would be very tempting.

I've played COD4 on my 30" at 1600x 1200 (Native 2560x 1600, Geforce 8800GT) and it still ran perfectly and looked great. I know the Dell LCDs have some of the best scaler chips on the market, and I must say I am impressed.

Well also COD4 has been praised for the fact that it isn't resource hungry whatsoever and even very "old" gfx cards can handle the game very well. Same goes for GOW. But some of the newer games tend to be hectic on even the so-called higher end gfx cards eg crysis(duh...Lol).

Which 30 inch Dell are you using? I'm using the 3007WFPHC and it does not
have any scaling unit in it. It only does 1280by900 or the full 2560by1600.
Any scaling is done by the graphics card itself.

Mine is the same model...

Might be the GFX doing the scaling, but you can clearly see when running games at lower res than native that scaling is taking place. AFAIK, that's being done by the Monitor itself, as I never enabled or changed any scaling settings on my GFX.

BTW.. it only has one native resolution, being 2560x 1600, anything else would require scaling.

Acer not glossy, silver.
Cleaned my room and desk today so I can setup the new black wooden PC stand, now my 2232GW sits on top very nicely.

Anyway I saw someone want to buy the Acer on monday, just a reminder this crazy sale ends on Sunday and the latter you go, the smaller the chance of any Acer 24' left.....

Ok. Got my moniter today....

From what I got from this thread is:

1. Get a 24" screen, full HD is better than 22"
2. Samsung has better quality

So, I got a R5000 24" Samsung :p

This screen so sexy!

Which one should I choose? I want it to last a while, seeing the 24" is full HD as well...

SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 2232GW R3299

  • 22" wide Magic Glare LCD
  • 1680 x 1050 maximum resolution
  • 300 Nits brightness
  • 3000:1 contrast ratio
  • 2ms response time
  • Analogue and DVI inputs

ACER X243W 24" WIDE LCD R2999

  • 24" wide LCD
  • 1920 x 1200 maximum resolution
  • 400 Nits brightness
  • 3000:1 contrast ratio
  • 5ms response time
  • Analogue and DVI inputs

Now, Samsung always seem to have the best colour etc. but which one should I choose? I would really like a 24" though...
Is the Acer colour quality bad?

I have an ACER Monitor, It is brilliant !!! :D
