As the title would suggest, I am looking for someone who has a lot of Joomla experience.

I need a quote to update a fairly complex monster from 1.5.26 to the latest version. Please PM me so that we can chat.

IMPORTANT: Version 1.5 was released in 2010 so if you've not got 6+ years of active experience with Joomla, please do not PM.

I've been working on Joomla since version 1 beginning 2009 and not even I would touch this one as I know how much of a pain it would be.

To be honest I would rather spend time on a redevelopment than going through that process.

Sorry if it's not helpful but that's the reality.

So you would not touch it period but you do have ample experience?

That is certainly one of the options, all I am looking for here is someone who has the experience and is willing to give a reasonable quote on working with this so as to ensure a smooth update to the latest version, there will of course be some issues within that but it is not maintaining it and dealing with all that comes with it.

Nah, that is perfectly reasonable and i'd agree with you whole heartedly.

I have ample experience yes, enough to know that trying to upgrade all the way from 1.5 to 3.6/3.7 would be nigh on impossible, mostly because of the modules and components. I hope for your sake that I'm wrong :)

You could always make a copy of the site and try out certain things to see the best way to go about it but I would think trying to upgrade the core joomla install and then update the components accordingly would cause errors in most cases. The other route would be to install a new version of joomla, add all the relevant modules/components (if they are available for the latest version) and try manually import the data. Depends on what the site consists of really.

The other reason I wouldn't do it is because most times people use Joomla because it is free and to get someone to work on it would be cheap. I don't stay in SA anymore and the amount people are willing to pay per hour would barely buy me a cup of coffee so not worth my while.

Makes good sense, thank you for your input and insight into this.

I personally hate Joomla and pretty much every other CMS platform but hey it's currently being used as a legacy application and due to income vs cost comparisons it's not been feasible to make very much effort here but it does now need the attention.

What you have said about the market is true and I mean most generally I would not touch something like this because yeah it would very low paying but this is kind of a different case so hence my interest in making an effort to get things resolved.

Out of interest sake, where you living these days and how is life treating you over there? :)

I moved to Aus the first quarter of last year. Things are good here and everything has fallen nicely into place for me so I definitely can't complain. Also learned a lot from the quality of the people here in the development field so everything is a bonus :)

Ha, Joomla?!?! I started using it when it was still Mambo ;)

I second a redevelopment as opposed to an upgrade.
