. Johannesburg – Speaking to Channel24 from his hospital bed on Monday morning, actor Patrick Shai said that he had been wounded after being struck by 11 rubber bullets during a protest in Dobsonville.

The community in the south of Johannesburg has been protesting due to electricity cuts.

Patrick says he stood between disgruntled residents and police, trying to calm the situation when he was shot.

"I was trying to mediate between cops and residents."

About his injuries, he says: "I've got an open wound on my leg. They're putting in a drip now." He added that he was going to have x-rays done to determine if he had incurred any other structural damage to tissue or bone.

Were you asked to? Did the police know that's why you were there?
11 bullets? Either every cop targeted this guy, or he really loves the pain.

And how in your mind did you imagine that was going to pan out? With everybody gathering around you holding hands singing Kumbaya?

**** son you've been watching too much television.

Poor man, he forgot that this was not on set but this was real life.

How the heck did he think he had the authority or even the superpowers to mediate?

Good to hear the police were more than bystanders. I hope Patrick's efforts were not in vain, and that people took heed of the pain inflicted by rubber bullets.

He's a lucky fscker that the cops were the ones to open fire with rubber bullets and the protesters didn't take exception to his interference. At least he's still alive.

Well we know what his super power is, he's a bullet magnet... 11 rounds of rubber, no wonder he's in hospital! Any man would be.

You don't negotiate with the bacon when the guy behind you is loaded up on Score with half a brick cocked and ready.

Get well soon, and please tell the world, the South African police fires at protesters.

Bwahahahahaha.
Did he neglect to mention that the current "rubber bullets" are downloaded .68 paintballs fired through a shotgun, or sometimes from an actual paintball gun?
So in effect, he was hit with 11 paintballs, but rubber. So he experienced what hundreds of teenage kids go through every weekend, with a little less padding.
Shame. he needs to go to hospital for paintball wounds?
This is not the 80's. Paintballs are minimum force now. Get over it loser.

So when the police are being pelted with bricks and stones by violent lunatics they should just stand there and do nothing while they wait for this ou toppie to get out of the way first?
