Ad hoc data bundle

I have a v4u contract and would like to get an "ad hoc" data bundle on it.

Logged onto vodacom4me.co.za to purchase the bundle, but can't. I get to the services page and can tick the bundle, but on update get the message "There was a problem updating your VAS information. Please contact Vodacom Customer Care on 082 111 or try again later."

Phoned 082111, they know nothing. Asked me to call 082 155 or 082 1082. I've now been holding about 15 mins for 155...

My questions:
1 - What's the best way to do this? Does it ever work through vodacom4me.co.za?
2 - Is there an ad hoc 3G bundle option? I have HSDPA, but I don't necessarily need the extra speed and especially on bigger bundles the cost difference could be quite a bit. On vodacom4me there are ad hoc GPRS bundles and ad hoc HSDPA bundles. There are also 3G bundles, but it's not clear if these are ad hoc or monthly.

I always load mine by calling 155 for some reason i never wait longer than 10 min for an operator to answer guess I'm lucky and yes you can choose between 3G or HSDPA.

Ok, I've given up on the call.

Some background:
1 - Vodacom4U contract, currently in it's third month.
2 - Had a problem in the first month with a "softlock" that comes on when the account reaches about R150-R200. Enquired about this at the vodashop where I got the contract and with 111, both said it was a measure on the 4u contracts to prevent people running up huge accounts and dissappearing and it would only happen in the first two months (makes sense, so I left it at that).
3 - Since I'm now in the third month, the softlock that came into effect last week p's me off just a tad.
4 - What I'm ACTUALLY trying to do is load an HSDPA bundle, but can't do this because of the error as posted above.

I suspect that it's not allowing me to add this because of the softlock, but that gets me into a bit of a catch 22.

Also, when I attempt to pay the account as is (which I'm hoping would also remove the softlock), I get a message indicating that a direct debit has already been scheduled for 31 July, and this could result in a double payment, which naturally would be less than ideal for me.

AdHoc data bundle conflicts?

This question is of public interest, but I'm really hoping that V3G will provide the correct answer.

I subscribe to a basic data bundle every month, and then use an "Ad Hoc" data bundle to add extra bytes once the basic bundle runs out. I generally use my login at the Vodacom4Me web site to activate additional bundles.

Here's the problem:

Once a particular MyMeg/3G (Ad Hoc) data bundle has been consumed, you cannot re-order the same bundle immediately.

For example, say I added a MyMeg/3G150 (Ad Hoc) and then consumed the data. My account then shows that the bundle as active, thereby preventing me from adding another MyMeg/3G150 (Ad Hoc) bundle.

However, if I then were to activate a different Ad Hoc bundle, e.g. a MyMeg/3G75 (Ad Hoc) bundle (within the same billing period), I later find that the option to again add a MyMeg/3G150 (Ad Hoc) bundle has returned. This doesn't make sense to me.

Perhaps this is an idiosyncrasy of the Vodacom4Me web design, and (hopefully) one that can, and will, be corrected soon? Or is this feature by design? V3G: Please investigate and feed back to us here (with thanks in advance).

I have NOT ventured down that painful road of trying to deal with the good Voda folks on 082 155, largely because I don’t have to time to waste waiting to reach a consultant that’s capable of answering my query. Hence, I raise the question here instead…

Does anyone else have something to add?

Have you tried unticking the bundle updating and then ticking it again ?
Seems like thats the way to do it. Even when I call 155 they have to unload the bundle I finished then load a new one.

Just a thought.

I am on the 1GB HSDPA contract. This month I ran out of data very quickly, now can I buy an ad hoc data bubdle to see me through to the end of the month?

Or will I be charged R2 per meg?

You can buy a ad hoc bundle thats what its there for just make sure you use all of it by the end of the month (you dnt seem to have a prob there) or you forfeit the balance. So choose wisely.

You can add another bundle but work out your usage as 2 x 150meg bundles cost the same as a 500meg bundle, you follow ?

Hope this helps

v3g

I have just added a 500 mb ad hoc bundle for the month.

On vodacom4me it shows both the contract data remaining as well as the ad hoc 500 mb.

On the vodacom4me light page it just shows the ad hoc 500 mb.

AdHoc data bundle conflicts - Part II

Thanks for the tip Gunny, I'll give it a try next month (once my standard bundle is exhausted) and announce my findings after that.

Just for interest's sake though, have look at this next time you visit Vodacom4Me - it's a bit more tricky; unchecking items under <Modify Services> usually causes a dialog box to pop-up with a "catch-22" error message. Wish me luck!

Gunny, I go to Vodacom4me, and browse to the following:

Where am I? » vodacom4me home (logged in) » my account » modify services

but I don't see the option to add data bundles, or anuthing else, for that matter. All I see is this...

Create Mailbox
Create a new mailbox if you don't currently have one. Your mailbox may have been de-activated if it was inactive for a period of time.
Reset Mailbox PIN
Reset your mailbox PIN to a 1111 default.
Divert All Calls to Voicemail
Calls are diverted if not answered or if cellphone is switched off.
Cancel All Diverts
Calls are not diverted to voicemail.
Activate Unrestricted APN
Vodacom customers can request to be provisioned with an additional APN for data usage that will allow unrestricted communication (peer-to-peer etc) and traffic when used on their device.
Deactivate Multiparty Conference Call
Disables you from using Multiparty Conference Call on the Vodacom network.
Upgrade Mailbox
Upgrade your mailbox for free to Vodamail Executive, an integrated voice and fax mailbox with enhanced features.

Should I browse somewhere else? On my normal Talk500 account I do see the options to add data bundles, but not on the HSDPA account.
