I have bipolar disorder coupled with ADHD....

I am also a recovering heroin addict and have been clean for 7 years....I am still an addict and will be for the rest of my life...I have experienced many things in my years here on earth and feel that I should share what I've learned and maybe even help others battling with addiction.

Addiction is addiction, whether it be cigarettes, alcohol, weed or coke...The basics remain the same.

I would like to invite anyone with an addiction or even advice for those with addictions to participate on this thread.

I have been in and out of rehabs, gone cold turky and done it all, I even lived in my car for 6 months...I have knowledge and wisdom on this subject and would love to share...

I have selfish motives for posting this thread too....I find it theraputic to talk about my addiction and in helping others it makes me feel better about all the bad things I did to people over the 5 years of my heroin addiction.

Please...All are welcome to chat...

You didn't get addicted to MyBB, so that's a start. :)

Advice?

Hmmm. Don't go to N/A ... stopping comes from within if you want to. NA is a joke.

Can't think of anything else offhand.

Congrats on 7 years

Agreed, N/A is a waist of time and yes ...You must WANT to be clean...And thanks...I'm throwing a party when I get to 10 years clean!

Congratz on 10 years BPDADHD :D

Not sure I've ever had an addiction, except possibly to World of Warcraft - that was beginning to take its toll on my relationships and possibly career. I used to smoke a lot of weed too, but was able to quit very easily once I realised I just wasn't enjoying it any more.

Oh - I have more, but don't take offense ...

Don't go out with anyone that's got an addiction problem - nor bipolar. You will get hurt.

Is the bipolar a psychological disorder, or is it a chemical imbalance, or could the addiction have brought it on in some way ?

None taken...It's true..Bipolar people can actually cause more damage than an addict..But...Bipolar like many diseases is treatable and if you take your meds as prescribed for the rest of your life you can actually live a normal functional life...7 years clean and 2 years without a Bipolar episode!!
Although I did get divorce inbetween and lose all my stuff....Hmmm

Always been Bipolar...The Bipolar caused me to make bad decisions and end up on heroin (which strangely enough kept my Bipolar under control - isn't that ironic).

True,

I guess it might be good for some addictions and not for others. But i can just assume that being Married to an addict and your not one yourself would put massive amounts of stress and problems on the non addict.

Congrats on the 7 years, keep it up. I've been fortunate enough to not have been addicted to anything, and I've tried everything except cigs and H.

Big of you to take responsibility for your past actions and try to make reparations.

I've been on Morphine twice in my life (In Hospital) and I crave that sometimes. That stuff is the SHYT !

the only thing that'll save the marriage is the support of the spouse and the addict coming clean...Otherwise the spouse should bail..
