Photoshop does not require 64-bit. From John Nack's blog: (http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2010/04/photoshop_cs5_64-bit_benchmarks.html)
What about other Creative Suite apps? As I've mentioned, After Effects & Premiere Pro are both 64-bit native on both Mac & Windows (64-bit only, in fact, unlike Photoshop). I haven't seen benchmarks yet, but given the data-intensive nature of video, the wins should be huge. Meanwhile Illustrator has raised the limits on RAM usage, from 2GB in CS4 to 3-4GB (depending on system configuration) in CS5.

I just mailed Simon, Adobe Channel Manger in Africa, because it was him as well as as well as 2 other guys from Adobe Africa including 1 of their graphics designers who was doing the Demo that said PS CS% was native 64 and should you install a containing suite PS CS4 will be installed, PS was the specifically mentioned product as they were busy with the content aware, obviously i am not going to get a reply now, but i asked for clarrification for exactly which apps are 64 native and which are 64 capable as its now adobe contradicting adobe a day apart.

It's possible that Photoshop is 64-bit native and 32-bit native. Either way, I don't really care. I'm 64-bit!
