Am I the only person who is dissapointed with Android...? Seriously, I'm getting to the point where I want to drop this thing off a building.

I have had endless issues with freezing apps, dropped calls, battery drain etc etc etc. My phone developed the habit of freezing when I end a call, except it doesn't end the call, so if the other party doesn't end the call, it just carries on. One of these calls lasted for 15 minutes! How about scrolling through your contacts and the phone then dials a number you've touched on to scroll? Don't bother pressing end call, because it doesn't respond. So you have to explain to the person you've just dialled why they just heard you cussing in the background and that your smartphone is actually pretty stupid.

I've just done my 3rd hard reset. I'm really kind of over having to setup the entire bloody phone again, reload my apps(at least I've found a way to back them up now) and so on.

Of course, after the latest reset my phone now refuses to connect to my bluetooth car kit, although I can still transfer files via bluetooth.

Let's not even talk about the useless pile of crap that is Samsung Kies.

The other day Mybroadband posted an article about the fact Android phones cause far less issues than Apple. It even had a nice little graph to illustrate. I don't know, I guess all Apple users must be liars but I've yet to find one that has even remotely the amount of issues that I have.

Rant over *sigh* I feel better now

If its new, ask for a swap or send it in for repairs. If you opt for the latter, expect a long wait and no results.

So your best option is to load a custom rom. I would go for Cyanogen to start. Its nice, fast and stable.

In the very least a custom rom will get rid of Samsung on your Samsung.

FYI. Galaxy 1 was by far the worst android handset I've used.

If anything, I think this is a good illustration of why it can be a bad idea to install a custom ROM.

When your phone starts to develop issues like these, you want to have an intact warranty.

My Wife has an S1 and she was experiencing similar issues you mention here! I had to flash a custom ROM just to keep her sanity. Try SLIM ICS over at the XDA forums, the phone is a lot more stable but still has it's random freakouts :(

I have the S1 and I haven't experienced any of the problems you had so far.

Your phone must be faulty and if you get about a day on the phone it isn't really battery drain. That is just about the lifespan of battery on a normal smartphone unless you run some tweaks.

Just take it back for repairs under warranty. They'll probably end up just giving you a new phone.

My Defy used to do that sometimes where it froze and I could not end the call...would have to pull the battery out. Did not happen a lot...just sometimes. That phone was on 2.2.2. I have had no freezing on my Moto RAZR that is on 2.3...so perhaps it is a bug in FroYo? See if you can upgrade the OS to 2.3

Sometimes it's a rogue app that causes all the crap.

Never had the Galaxy S1, opted for the HTC Desire HD instead. It ran flawlessly until I dropped it one night. :(

Now I have the Galaxy S2 and will most probably keep it for years to come. Best phone I ever had.

Yip nice case, I have one, pretty much bullet proof, but sadly not water-proof.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I've had the phone for a year now. It's goes through good and bad periods. I try and take note of changes when I install new apps, but I think I'm a pretty light app user. Used to have LOADS of issues with Twitter but that seems to have stopped.

It's on Gingerbread. I've thought of going custom, but am always cautious of needng the warrenty. Will take it into consideration though, especially if things don't get any better.

Have thought of returning it, but I honestly doubt they'll do anything but a simple hard reset, which I can do myself. And as someone said, then I'll be without a phone for a week or three.

Thanks again.
Deon
