hi guys

i am a forum newbie.

Since August of this year, my ADSL connection has been intermittent, slow and inconsistent. Before that time I had no problems.

Also I do online f1 racing, and it happened now twice in a row that at 12.00 at night I get a 'lost connection' to the online server.

I am in Cape Town, and my firnd in Pta also experienced it 2 min before 12.00

Is there any reason for this ?

Are you saying that for two days in a row it disconnected at 12pm? If so thats completely normal. Not sure who your ISP is but Telkom resets ip's once daily, you will be disconnected then reconnected with a diff IP. That is possible what your experiencing. If you dont want it to disconnect at 12, just physically reboot that modem at a time in the day when u wont be using the internet. If your line doesnt disconnect after that then it should reset at that time the next day and not at 12 when u might be using it.

hi Surv0

Thanks for the quick reply. I do think that is whats happening!
ok, I hav a normal USB Marconi Telkom ADSL (without any on/off switch)-the one telkom dished out with the 2-yr contract.

What i was thinking of, is to set my computer date an hour or so back when i do online raing, because we start at 23:00 for an hour or so-will that maybe help??

also to reboot/reset the modem, what would you suggest please?

Much appreciated

mark anthony all you need to do is manually reboot your router at a time that is most convenient for you. The reset happens 24 hours after the adsl was connected, thus if you reset your router at 6am, it will reset at 6am, if you connect at 2pm, it will reset at 2pm the next day, and so on.

Does this make sense? It did in my head.

Ok well with USB modems it cant have anything to do with firmware. so rebooting it or resetting it is impossible. Telkom registers the time at which it needs to re-assign an ip so changing the time on your computer wont help.
Just turn the modem off now for instance and telkom will register the time at which u get a new ip (Thats when u turn it back on and make a connection). Remember telkom will set the ip re-assign for 24hours after you reconnect your connection..just disconnect and reconnect before you wanna race...
