I've been having this irritating problem with my adsl connection that sometimes it stops transferring any data (according to the windows networking box) for 5 minutes or even more. If the connection is disconnected within this time it fails to reconnect giving a message about not connecting to remote host. This didnt happen so much in the beginning but it hasnt stopped for weeks now and is happening regularly. I cant even stay connected for 24hrs without it happening at least twice. My ISP is imaginet does anyone have any advice? thnx in advance.

What's your infrastructure (hardware, software, network) and config? More detail will potentially result in some help...

Well my setup is pretty basic. I run a P4, Intel MB, 1GB ram with Windows XP. It just came off a clean format. I use the default firewall for Dialup connections and connected straight to a hub that's connected to the ADSL modem. So no proxies or anything else I go through, I dial-up myself with my own username/password and use Imaginet as a ISP. I dont know what else could be of more help I think thats about it. I somehow feel its more of an external error though as it happens to all the computers on the network at the same time but I havent heard of it happening with anyone else so maybe its a good idea to get telkom fix it:\

If your modem is connected to your hub, I presume you have a Telkom ADSL POTS Router modem? If so, you should upgrade its firmware (at your peril) - rather ask Telkrap for a replacement unit at your nearest service centre first, then take it from there after some usage to see if there's an improvement. If not, time to check your device setup...

Rather than using dial up try setting it up as a router. see this topic for details.
