Hi.
As some of you may know there is currently huge congestion on the peering link between Telkom and IS. And there is a legal battle on the go about it.
I currently have Telkom as my ISP but want to change to an ISP plugging into IS directly as my email and most of my client websites are sitting on a server at IS.
Does anyone have any suggestions on who to go with?
IS has suggested the following resellers:

Thanks in advance.

I actually went on the same search however...

www.interprise.co.za - sells IS 56k/isdn dialups, and SAIX adsl accounts...
www.sai.co.za - dont know about them...heard though they were good with 56k/isdn dialups
www.gamco.co.za - prices on site exclude vat, thus add 14% to see what you will be paying...
www.blackdot.co.za - dont know about them...name sounds too close to AYCE's company, but I am not sure.
www.artslink.co.za - also dont know about them...

One you missed though:
www.intdev.co.za - they however ask R200 setup fee...is once of though. I however do favour this isp atm, and its the one I have a IS adsl account with.

There is one thing though about ISadsl I do not like, and that is the 600ms+ pings to international sites, other than that this is the best adsl account I yet had. 20ms pings to local on both SAIX/IS/UUNET network...just the international pings....:(

Does anyone else have any more input on this topic, as i'm also out to choose one this weekend, in anticipation of my adsl being installed on tuesday :D

datapro uses SAIX for their adsl accounts...then they use some wierd tunnel solution to their network, most people who had this complained about it. Please dont use them for uncapped. Their 3gb account is a normal saix account. Not Internet Solutions like the guy asked...

yip - they have been using multiple stringed isp accounts for quiet some time, also its not uncapped.. the uncapped offering is 10gig / month. Make sure what you signup for, and when you sign for uncapped, make sure it doesnt show any kind of restrictions.

datapro have an IS offering. phone and ask them... its expensive though..

Wynsam, that is accurate as to who host their mail servers ect. But not exactly true as to whose adsl accounts they resell!

Many isps on IS resell SAIX's adsl accounts.

Anyhow just found another ISadsl based ISP.

http://www.eastcoast.co.za looks to be the best so far...
R250 p/m with no setup fee and already include vat.

Eca

Hi there

ECA are using IS.

I have not always had good service from them. promises made and not delivered, but to be fair though I think that they were let down by IS in turn. It was about email to fax and fax to email services.

other than that the dail up i had with them was and still is good. I got my adsl drom axxess. Now they do have good service. Nice caps, fast downloads.
they are with SIAX.

I would rather support IS(not SAIX as SAIX is telkom owned) but a better deal than the one i have with axxess I have not found.

Okay, question, whats the difference if the isp uses a saix or IS account/backbone?

the backhaul network internet side - if you use an IS account, once you have bridged the adsl atm cloud, you have nothing to do with the telkom network anymore. saix accounts bridge to the telkomsa ISP network
(edit : the 3GB cap is on the ISP side - if you dont use telkom ISP, you MAY not encounter a CAP)

Ah okay, but inveriably you do... Well I gather, else everyone would join IS... So as far as everyone is concerned I take it IS is the better choice overall... Now which would be the better ISP linked to them?

I'm looking for quality of sevice and decency of price... Plz respond A.S.A.P. I'd like to sign up with one today...

Agree, this would answer my original question.

Who is the best ISP using IS.
Has anyone used Interprise?

I used to have an IS account through blackdot. Reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Regrettably had to change because of the high ping times which made game play un-enjoyable. The web surfing and downloading where very good internationally.

Hope you find this helpful.

hmmmm, yes, i take it that would mean international video confrencing would be a bit worse on the IS backbone though wouldn't it...

Well, to me the best setup site i've seen so far is from www.cybersmart.co.za Can anyone comment on them?

Atleast they have an online application function... unlike pretty much all the others...

So as far as everyone is concerned I take it IS is the better choice overall

Are you out of your mind. You're on a public forum asking which ISP's resell IS ADSL, because IS have not given you correct information. How in the world do you blind yourself like that ?

The other problem is that I don't see you asking IS any of these questions. And I'm pretty sure that you're not going to. This is a mistake. You need to determine what you want to use ADSL for, and then match your needs with a service provider.

IS is the more expensive ADLS provider, but they do provide a 5 Fixed IP Adddresses. But - at a massive cost.

The questions you've raised here are flimsy and just about any ADSL service provider can provide what you're asking, so why use the most expensive one ?

Personally, I'll never use an IS product again, but that's just me.
