ADSL filters...anything else out there besides the Telkom ones?

Title says it all.

Both filters I've used have crapped out after a while and it's not surprising they both came with my Telkom router. I'd like to buy a good quality filter and not have to keep replacing them.

Are there any alternatives out there to Telkom's filters?

I asked this question earlier in the year and got no response, so I hope someone who knows replies ;)

Thanks dude, great minds and all that...:D

It would be really cool I think if the leading router manufacturers such as Billion, Netgear, Linksys and so on made filters.

So you would have your router, and the analogue stream is covered by your trusty brand as well.

Somehow companies don't have foresight these days? :D

Well on the Whirlpool forums (that's the Australian equivalent of this forum) they seem to at least have a choice between a few different brands of filters.

I guess an option for us would be to use wantitall and get a more reliable filter that way but that seems like a pretty desperate path to go just to get a decent filter.

But yeah, I agree with you that brand specific filters should be bunvdled with the more popular brands of routers.

Esquire had these listed in their latest specials e-mail - not sure when these specials run until though.

Must be a dealer though, but if you know someone then ask them to get for you. If you're in JHB, I can help out if needed...

I was at esquire yesterday. No stock of those filters, seems they sold out pretty quickly.

Still have a couple at the office but they're spoken for. Good quality.

Yes, some of the Router Manufacturers DO make filters and DO include them in the box with your router purchase. I am surprised you guys never got any with your routers. I thought it was standard practise. I am sure I still have some non-Telkom routers laying around here, but in condition unknown since I have changed my filters several times over the last three years. I would do a search on Google for "DSL POTS filters"

I think I did receive 2 filters with the Billion router last year, I can't remember though ;) What I'm saying is, I'd like to go to Game or Incredible Connection, Take 2 or Kalahari and just order a filter :p

Strange... don't think I've ever had to replace a filter, didn't even know they could break :p

The Telkom filters are so frail, they feel like they're fortune cookies that are a bout to crack open at any time.

We've had to replace about 4. The slightest bit of rain and it messes up for some reason.

I took a filter once, which was wet after a pipe burst in the house and I placed it in a towel in the tumble dryer, safe to say, it's the only filter that hasn't needed to be replaced ;) :D :p

I work in Florida, and live in Randburg - only get home late though during the week...

I was at esquire yesterday. No stock of those filters, seems they sold out pretty quickly.

I was going to pop through there today, but ran out of time - I can always order online - according to their online site (extract below) they state they have a 1-week order time for this item, but the pricing has gone back up to R69 + VAT

If I see them again, I'm going to grab a few...
