ADSL in Craighall

I've been fighting with Telkom for this for years but they have offered me credit which was a great brand plus.

Basically, I have a 10Mbps line that never connects at that speed (usually 8Mbps). Then after many conversations with Telkom support and then an on-site technician I found out that our exchange is very congested and that my throughput of a maximum of about 250KBps (down) are pretty good.

What sucks is that I'm paying R500 per month for a 10Mbps line that never connects at that speed and then it doesn't even allow me to reach the speed it does connect at anyway.

This is not a rant. It's just to make people aware that Craighall is a nasty area for ADSL and as far as I'm aware there is no short-term plan for upgrading our exchange.

If you're at the bottom of Craighall you also have the wonderful drag of not having the best 3G signal either.

Not sure which exchange you're on, but might be Rosebank. I'm linked to the Randburg exchange and I'm on the lower end of Craighall. I get a 10Mbs connection, and average throughput is about 90% of that at night and usually the same during the day.

The exchange is rated as ready for 40Mbs connection according to the Telkom website.
