ADSL international connectivity problems (29 June 2012)

BTW why is it that I'm unable to use the ABSA site without it timing out every 20 seconds? I thought it's hosted locally.
I just tried my ABSA IB, took forever to merely login & sms's took almost 5 mins to get through.
Tracert shows a few very slow/dead nodes along the way though.

I would like to know as well.

Mainly because it is absa, and their site hardly ever works at the end of the month :)

Just to clarify, are there any adsl packages/providers not affected by this outage, when this has happened in the past, you could buy a 1gb or 5gb backup?

Can anyone confirm if business accounts at the various ISPs have been impacted?

MWEB, Afrihost, WebAfrica? If they are impacted, then so much for the promise of redundancy and better uptime in exchange for more of our money.

Hi Saajid. We have sufficient capacity on Seacom to handle this and our failovers kicked in as expected.

We're monitoring the network very closely to make sure everything is in order and will continue to do so until SAT-3 comes back on line, but at this time I'm happy to report that the customer experience is normal on our side.

Regards
Will

Internet Solutions and ISDSL are affected, M-Web is not. Internet Solutions posted two tweets, but this is brain-dead since their customers can't access twitter.com, unless they have a smartphone.

I am writing this from an M-Web connected PC, and everything is fine, and no reported issues on the M-Web Network Status Notices page.

Yes, I bought a R25 FNBConnect 1GB bundle and it's working without any issues. Will continue using this until I can switch back.

Thanks donn. We have all this high tech monitoring in place with graphs and tables to tell us that everything's working fine, but it still feels much better to hear it first hand from a happy customer :D

Since MWeb is working so well through this nightmare...Imagine if they were to arrange a trial account that lasts the weekend, for X amount of people having issues... Pretty sure that would convert into a good number of clients by 1st July :p

How man y websites are hosted locally? I cant even access a search engin. MyBroadband and Standard Bank are the only perfectly seamless sites.
And why does MTN Mobile Broadband work, how are they connected?

We have just received further updates on this issue, we are receiving additional bandwidth capacity on our fail-over links which will be live soon. On top of this we've been advised that the repair ship has been dispatched and there is a possibility that it would be repaired by today, however, this cannot be guaranteed.

We will keep everyone updated here if and when we get more information.

As it happens we do offer a 7 day trial account that you can sign up for with a quick call to our sales team :)
