ADSL is not dead - Telkom's plans for copper

Just wish ISPs could confirm that we can now cancel our voice line without repercussions, and use the R210 to either upgrade the Line Speed or save the money.

Any ISP that will take an order from somebody without a fixed phone for a capped, high(ish) GB , unshaped 10 meg line with after midnight [free/high usage] downloads, let me know! Early response get the customer!

Without understanding the business model (and I don't want to), it sounds like they're flogging a dead or dying horse.

So why did Telkom remove our copper infrastructure?

This is literally the worst company on the planet. Telkom LTE speeds are less than 1 Mbps in my area and they go and pull the copper infrastructure. And there were so many people on the service, it's impossible that it was not viable.

my vdsl line is still with telkom, but I won't mind cancelling the voice line part.

Afrihost is absolutely of no assistance with regards to this. Asked them to confirm that if I canceled my telephone line with Telkom, the cancelation would not affect my VDSL line with them. The response I got was:-

Hello there

Thank you for getting in touch with us regarding this.

Please kindly note that we do not offer "Naked DSL" on our end as it is exclusive to Telkom. You would need to confirm with them.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We remain committed to assisting you should you have more questions.

Enjoy the rest of your day

Thank you again.

You think they would jump on this for their customers.....

Bad management decisions that the workers will again pay dearly for. They were overzealous in wanting to force people off ADSL into their other offerings, at times even disconnecting you while there were no fibre or LTE options, it took them months to realise the damage they have caused since their customers were not interested in being bossed around and thousands left.

WTF are you on about??

How do you expect Afrihost ( a company I detest by the way ) to sell a product that they litterally cannot sell?

What do you think
it is exclusive to Telkom.
means?

It said it will continue its decommissioning strategy in locations which are not “economically viable”, however.

These are probably the areas which are also not economically viable for fibre or LTE.
