My adsl line keeps every two to three hours disconnecting for about a minute.
The adsl light on the modem goes off and the about a minute later starts flashing and comes back on.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like the line is losing sync every now and then.

Check the connections of the telephone line to the router to see if they haven't popped out. If thata doesn't work, phone Telkom and ask them to monitor your connection for a while cause it keeps disconnecting. They should notice it and send out a techie to come have a look.

Are you by any chance using a Mecer Modem. I have a Mecer modem and I have the same problem, it just disconnects and Displays "ADSL Signal Lost" and reconnects after a few seconds. I contacted my ISP and they say it is most likely the Modem although there is a slight possibility that it's the line. I also spoke to a Telscum ADSL Techie and he claims that these modem are problematic since they sometimes loose their MAC address (don't know how true this is).

Try doing a firmware reset on that router. Sometimes that helps with an intermittant connection problem. usually if the router drops the synch for a minute or so then goes back up every couple of hours it isnt usually the line, its the router. A firmware reset usually resolves that. If it doesnt get telkom to log a fault for the intermittant connection loss, they can test the line for any possible errors, maybe your SNR values are 2 low... could be a port problem on the DSLAM at the exchange

I am using a D-Link modem at the moment.
I have logged a fault with our friends Telkom yesterday.
I have printed my connection log from my isp showing all the port errors I am getting.

Well I am still waiting for telkom about my problem.
I have in the mean time tried unplugging my handset and pots filter as they suggested I try but no help.
I have changed from my D-link modem and are now using a smc Barricade router with the latest firmware but still having the same problem.
The adsl led just goes out every +/- 2.5 to 3 hours but is now taking a bit longer to come on. It was less than a minute before but now takes over two to reactivate. I check my log from my isp and it shows port error everytime i disconnect.

Just spoken to Telkom again, well they had logged it as a normal line fault and had put it on hold. Had to re log fault. -1000000 stars for them as usual.

Just make sure the techie change your line. Cause they normally plug in that little **** white Telscum router and says that its working fine. Bu!!lsh!t... Grab him by the b@lls if you have to and tell him to change the wire!!!!!!!!! OR YOU'LL RIP THEM OFF!!!!!!

Bullet, change the connection "keep alive" or "breath of life" value to 5 or 10 seconds. Most router will support this function. Worked for me.

Check your line connection at the wall, I've had problems like that because the line wasnt connected properly.

Through checking all the posts here, it all seems pretty standard. What ISP do you have, if its a IS reseller, they rather unstable from prev XP. I know there is a mega negative factor towards siax accounts, but personally, i would recommend it.

But i think your problem might be sitting in the ADSL Pots Filtering. The line comming directly from your router needs to be plugged in straight to the wall. Any other telephone that is plugged into that line/number, you need to have it filtered with through a ADSL Pots Filter.

Same principle with 56k, when you are connected and you pick up the phone, youll hear the modem noise, if you talk into the phone, you will get disconnected.

Try that, maybe that could be the problem
Good Luck Thou

Could be a couple of reasons why its losing synch... check ur SNR, if its anything like Pearljams, then thats why ur having problems... ur just synching at a higher rate than ur modem and line can sustain. Shouldnt be happening on a 384 line tho. You can check for a week signal by actually making a phone call on that line when u see the router is not synching. Just phone an 0800 num so u wont get charged. But if there is a week signal then youll see that the line will synch as soon as you make that call, if its a more physical fault then it obviously wont. But regardless u need to log a fault for that...

Impossible for a device to just "loose" it's MAC address...

This is what the Telkom Techie told me when he saw my Mecer Usb Adsl Modem. I did a self install but the line was not synching, so the Techie came with his own router and tested the line, it didn't work so he called someone and had the port reset, and it started working. Maybe the Techie was talking a bunck of crap , I don't know.
